Winter is coming and so are the whales. As the cooler weather sets into Sydney, whales make their way from the cooler waters of southern Australia and the Antarctic to warmer waters up north. Thus, whale spotting season is upon us. ACF Eastern Sydney will be participating in ORRCA's (Organisation for the Rescue and Research of Cetaceans in Australia) annual Whale Census.

ORRCA's event will run all day, and the ACF contingent will join in from 9am-12pm in Kamay Botany National Park. You are more than welcome to get their early or stay late, I am sure you will have some company. ACF Eastern Sydney are currently championing the Southern Right Whale and will be keeping a special eye out for it on the day. We will have a couple of guest speakers to start the day and talk to the significance of the census and protecting local biodiversity.

Make sure to bring warm clothes, some food and potentially a Thermos of coffee, binoculors and a camera if you have some at your disposal, a friend and an eagerness to get involved in a bit of whale spotting. We will be meeting at Cape Banks Walking Track Parking Lot (opposite Sydney Pistol Club) at 9am and then heading to a lookout on the Cape Banks Walking Track.
