Every minute, over governments hand over $21,143 to the fossil fuel industry.

"To the Prime Minister, Energy Minister, Environment Minister and Treasurer:
End coal and gas in Australia to ramp up climate action. That means:
- This decade, replacing existing coal, gas and uranium exports with a renewable-powered exports industry and climate-positive careers for communities
- No new coal and gas projects or infrastructure
- Stop spending public money on the fossil fuel industry – fund climate solutions instead."
A responsible government would use our public money to make our communities and wildlife thrive, not fund the industries damaging our climate. The Albanese Government has already taken some steps to advance climate ambition in Australia, but to truly slash climate pollution it must immediately end public funding for fossil fuels.
In the 2022-23 financial year, government subsidies for fossil fuels cost Australians $11.1 billion.
If we stop spending public money on fossil fuels now, we can help prevent even more damaging projects in the future. Currently, Australia has 114 new coal and gas projects, like Woodside's Scarborough project, in the pipeline and if the projects were to go ahead they would almost double our current domestic emissions. And that’s not including any emissions from exporting the coal and gas overseas!
For a safe climate future, let’s instead invest our public money into renewable exports that can replace coal and gas, slash pollution and create climate-positive jobs that future-proof our economy.

I want Australians to acknowledge and understand the link between Co2 emissions into the atmosphere and the warming of the planet. I know so many educated people who are sceptical of this well documented connection. The government needs to acknowledge this link and promote evidence based scientific studies that will end the scepticism. Only then can real pressure be applied to end coal and gas energy production which is based on old technology. If we cease pumping CO2 into the atmosphere today ie not increase current CO2 levels into the atmosphere we may be able to save 20% of our animals from extinction. On our current rates we have condemned 3 out of 5 species of animals on our planet to extinction and that is a catastrophic statistic not to mention an unstable climate with more wild weather that will make insurance for property damage untenable. Please e cease CO2 emissions now and embrace renewables for future generations.
I want Australia to end coal and gas because there are numerous scientific data and reports showing that they are contributing to global warming. As well as unpredictable climate and seasonal changes.
If we are to survive we must stop oil and gas.

Things NEED to change. I think of our planet, wildlife, water etc. and my children and grandchildren, what will it be like for them if nothing changes?? It’s fine for us, we’ll be dead and gone, but they will be here dealing with what we’ve done to it…

I want Australia to end coal and gas NOW because the fate of humanity literally relies on this across the world. We’re not even at 1.5 degrees of warming and the impacts of climate change are already killing, displacing, and ripping a future from so many people. Our natural environments are crippling under the pressure of our greed – end coal and gas now to give the earth a chance of survival.
The fossil fuel industry serves only the minuscule few, the profits are extremely short term for a few , renewables can set up for generations to come
