Send an email to Environment Minister Murray Watt
The standard you walk by is the standard you accept.
Environment Minister Murray Watt has recently released the draft new National Environmental Standards, and they simply aren’t up to scratch.
As part of reforms to our national nature laws that were passed last year, the Albanese government is looking to create new National Environment Standards. In Minister Watt’s own words these standards will “set the boundaries for decisions, to ensure they deliver improved environmental outcomes”. They exist to give the red light or green light to major projects that could have an impact on our natural environment 🚦.
As they stand, the draft National Environment Standards that Minister Watt has put forward could justify almost any project put forward by the likes of Alcoa or Santos who we know don’t have nature’s best interests at heart.
We’re in the middle of a deforestation and extinction crisis. This is not the moment for Australia to have low standards.
We’re calling for National Environment Standards that will:
- Protect forests and wildlife from bulldozing
- Keep our water safe from coal and coal seam gas developments
- Give local communities a voice on projects happening in their area
Take one minute to send an email to Murray Watt and tell him to lift his standards!
