Update: On Wednesday 28 August, Woolworths announced it will stop selling beef linked to deforestation by the end of 2025! Woolworths is the biggest seller of beef in Australia (20% of all sales) – so this a major breakthrough in our campaign to create a food system that’s good for people and nature.

It leaves Coles as the last big supermarket with no commitment to only sell deforestation-free beef.

Send the pre-filled email to Coles now to urge them to catch up to Woolworths – and Aldi – in committing to stamp out deforestation in their supply chains!

ACF exposed 50 major cases of deforestation on properties linked to big beef producers, destroying the homes of animals like koalas, pink cockatoos and northern quolls.

Beef production is Australia’s leading cause of deforestation. As the two biggest buyers of beef, Coles and Woolworths must play their part to stop the bulldozing of forests and woodlands that fuels the extinction crisis.

Send this pre-filled letter to Coles – the only big supermarket without a commitment to stamp out deforestation in their supply chains. Urge them to play their important part to stop bulldozing of threatened animal habitat.

Committing to only selling deforestation-free beef would support the many farmers who protect and care for the bush, and give confidence to customers who want to go about their weekly shop without it harming threatened wildlife.

The big supermarkets routinely ask suppliers to comply with standards related to health and safety, and the use of antibiotics – we need them all to add deforestation to the list!
