Australia's new Environment Minister Murray Watt's first big test is here: reject or approve Woodside's North West Shelf gas extension!

Minister Watt can pass with flying colours. He just needs to do the responsible thing: choose people over polluters.

Call the Minister's office today with this message:

  • Our future is renewable. Reject Woodside’s North West Shelf gas.”

About Woodside's North West Shelf gas

The North West Shelf is a dirty, old gas plant in WA's Pilbara region. It's meant to close this decade, but its owners Woodside are applying to extend its life to 2070. If the federal government approves this, Woodside is one step closer to:

  • Locking in 40+ years of acid pollution eating away at irreplaceable 50,000 year-old First Nations Rock art (pictured on this page's banner image). During the gas plant's construction in the 80s, 5,000 World Heritage-nominated Murjuga rock carvings were destroyed. Ever since, the plant's acid pollution has put the art at serious risk.

  • Completing its Burrup Hub climate bomb and burning enough gas to emit more than13x Australia’s annual climate pollution.

  • And drilling 50 gas wells around WA’s Scott Reef – home to threatened turtles, whales and sea snakes.

Our national environment laws include protections for nationally significant cultural heritage. For this reason, Minister Watt must reject Woodside's gas plans and protect Murujuga rock art.

Call the Minister today and urge him to reject Woodside's North West Shelf gas extension!
