Twelve months ago, Woolworths promised Australians it would stop selling beef linked to deforestation by the end of 2025.

This week, Coles made a similar commitment. For 22 glorious hours, Australia’s three biggest supermarkets were aligned on protecting forests and wildlife.

But yesterday, Woolworths walked it back. They’ve decided Australian beef deforestation is no longer a high priority – even though it’s the number one driver of habitat destruction in Australia. That means more bulldozed forests, more lost wildlife habitat, and more climate damage.

This backslide is a disgrace, and we won’t stand by while Woolworths continues to break the promises it’s made to us, you, and the koalas, gliders, and birds that rely on our bushland to survive.

Woolworths cares what its customers think so it’s important we let them know that stopping deforestation from beef should be a HIGH priority.

What can you do?

  • Woolworths, beef is the number one cause of deforestation in Australia. Don’t walk away from your promise.

  • Coles has just committed to deforestation-free beef. Why are you going backwards? Stop fueling deforestation.
