Join ACF Melbourne NxNW on a family-friendly walk around Werribee Gorge State Park. Different tracks suitable for a range of experience, abilities and ages.

There are 2 walks: the first is the short circuit at about 5 km and takes roughly 2 hours. It has some ups and downs but no real rock scrambling.
The second is the full circuit at 10 km and takes about 3.5 hours. At some points you need to hold a wire to get round the rock ledges. This would not be suitable for young children.

We meet at Meikles Point Picnic area at 10am or at the Bake and Brew Cafe (187A Main St) in Bacchus Marsh at 8.45am for pre walk coffee and chat. The Gorge is about 15 minutes west of Bacchus Marsh.

Start walk together at Meikles Point Picnic area 10.30am going anticlockwise to avoid leaving a very steep section until the end of the walk. Then at the junction about 20 minutes into the walk we split off, with the more intrepid souls taking the longer path while the rest of us stay on the short circuit. Both walks provide a section along the river but the longer walk travels closer to the river for longer.

Good solid footwear is essential, all walkers should bring water and dress for the weather including layers of warm clothing.

This is a fabulous walk, well signposted and with many information boards. Bring your binoculars as the bird life is many and varied. There are some fabulous lookouts along the way.
The picnic ground has toilets.

10km walkers may want to stop for lunch during the walk. 5km walkers will probably lunch at the picnic ground after completing the circuit.

Allow about an hour driving time from inner northern Melbourne suburbs to get to the meeting point at Werribee Gorge State Park.
