We invite you to join us in this special snap briefing, as we look at the potential to turn WA from laggard to leader, to Lead the Nation in Decarbonisation !
In a year of out of control temperature records, and major climate events like the potential collapse of our beautiful Jarrah Forests and bleaching of the Ningaloo Reef in 2021-2022), WA’s emissions are continuing to rise!
Since 2005, WA’s emissions have risen by around 20% driven predominantly by the mining and export of fossil fuels and other ores like iron.
Instead of urgently addressing this issue, the WA government is currently doubling down, pushing for more fossil fuel expansion and ignoring the huge economic opportunities and community benefits that can come from embracing renewable manufacturing and industry instead.
But, we know there are real opportunities in the lead up to the next federal and state election (or other urgency framing?) to move the great state of WA from climate laggard to clean, green leader.
Let’s come together and push our political representatives to protect the people and the places that we love by becoming the climate heroes we need!
The federal government has announced its ambition to establish Australia as a renewable energy superpower, where Australian sunshine and knowhow powers decarbonisation both at home and abroad.
This ambition has shaped the federal government’s Future Made in Australia agenda, but the government has not yet determined how a Future Made in Australia will impact a Future Made in WA.
And the federal government is also developing a plan for the decarbonisation of Australian industry and mining, as part of its 2035 target setting process. It is essential that any 2035 target pushes WA to decarbonise and reduce its emissions.
It’s our job to make sure that any future made in WA is a green one, where government backs the clean industries of Australia’s future like green hydrogen, green metals and renewable energy. If properly harnessed, the opportunity for WA has the potential to be massive!
Fossil gas cannot be a part of this major expansion of industry. We have alternatives, renewable energy and green hydrogen can power the industries of the future – its our job to make sure government backs in clean not dirty.
The size of the prize for WA in clean energy industries is, according to ACF’s Sunshot report (2021):
So come along to our webinar, to find out how you and your community can make sure that as a Future Made in Australia takes shape, we ensure that WA’s next boom is a green one.
We’ll be sharing both information, handy tips on what you can do to move our politicians. And there will be time for Q& A.
So join us for this quick and impactful hour together!
We look forward to seeing you there!
