What happens when the coal fired power station closes? This is a major question facing the Latrobe Valley.

Communities across Australia are facing similar challenges as technology develops and coal is phased out of the energy mix. Many communities are leading the way, developing solutions and responding in creative and unique ways.

Vision for the Valley is a community forum and opportunity for people to hear first-hand the story of Port Augusta, South Australia and the successful campaign to have the community’s ageing coal fired power station replaced with Australia's first solar thermal plant, which built momentum for the development of 12 other renewable energy projects along the way.

The panel of the forum will include:

  • Wendy Farmer (Voices of the Valley)
  • Gary Rowbottom (Repower Port Augusta and power station worker)
  • Daniel Spencer (Repower Port Augusta and Australian Services Union SA and NT)
  • Bronya Lipski (Environmental Justice Australia)
  • Youth representatives from community group A New Power

Daniel and Gary from Repower Port Augusta will share their story of building community power to create jobs and hope for the future. Q and A will follow the panel discussion.

Together we'll explore what these lessons mean for the Latrobe Valley.
