This is the first of our lunchtime zoom meetings on Verge Gardens for our ACF group nature activity.

While the ACF campaigns at a national level to Save Our Big Backyard, local groups projects have a role to raise awareness of ways we can all protect nature and increase biodiversity with nature-related activities in our own neighbourhoods.

Research shows that private gardens and nature strips could be the key to protecting many species.

Orthosiphon aristatus (Cats whiskers) on vergeOur Brisbane Northside ACF group is collaborating with The Shady Lanes Project to encourage residents to replace some or all of the grass on their nature strips with low-maintenance, native verge gardens - in accordance with the existing policies of the Brisbane City and Moreton Bay Regional Councils.

The garden on the right has Orthosiphon aristatus (Cat’s Whiskers) which attracts native bees and butterflies. The groundcover is a mix of Mazus pumilio and Viola banksii.

We will have a brief presentation on understanding council policies and the complexity of this space and then Q&A and discussion.

Please register on zoom here.
