Woodside's Scarborough Gas Project is one of Australia's most polluting new fossil fuel projects.

To be built off the northwest coast of Western Australia, the Scarborough Project threatens local marine wildlife. The processing of the gas also puts at risk 40,000-year-old Murujuga rock art.

It would also generate ten times the annual emissions of Western Australia’s most polluting coal-fired power station.

Most of the gas dug up at Scarborough would be burnt overseas. But no matter where Australian coal and gas are burned, it damages our climate and impacts communities here and around the world. From the Great Barrier Reef in the east to Ningaloo Reef in the west, our living world is counting on us to stop climate-polluting projects like Woodside's Scarborough Gas Project.

Sign the petition now to the Albanese Government demanding no new coal and gas projects or infrastructure, including Woodside's Scarborough gas project.

Petition demands

"To the Prime Minister, Energy Minister and Environment Minister,

End coal and gas in Australia to ramp up climate action. That means:

  • This decade, replacing existing coal, gas and uranium exports with a renewable-powered exports industry and climate-positive careers for communities
  • No new coal and gas projects or infrastructure
  • Stop spending public money on the fossil fuel industry – fund climate solutions instead."

Our state and federal governments are handing over $22,000 in public money every minute to the polluting coal and gas industries, which fuel climate impacts like more extreme floods, fires and droughts.

We cannot afford to keep squandering public money on digging, expanding, exporting and burning coal and gas.

For a safe climate future, let’s instead invest our public money into renewable exports that can replace coal and gas, slash pollution and create climate-positive jobs that future-proof our economy.

Sign the petition and call on our government to step up for climate action.

I am concerned about its impact on the Great Barrier Reef and the environment. Furthermore, I seriously question the lack of transparency and accountability in the decision-making process.

I want to stop this project as someone who grew up in wa, this project serves no purpose to us the residents do not benefit it in any way and it is not needed. we don’t want, we don’t need it and we don’t want it to ruin the beautiful place we call home and any government that supports this has lost my vote from now and indefinitely, this labour goverment is not my goverement. Woodside is an organisation that should be as dead and the fuels they profit from.

Australia is a vital home to endemic animals found nowhere else in the world. Should Woodside continue this gas project, it could lead to the extinction of such wildlife, which would be an existential loss of biodiversity that could indirectly affect human society.

We need to stop this project, our world is dying more and more by the day and these people think its okay to kill all these animals and the beautiful water? They are out of their minds if they think that we are going to let this happen. I will fight and fight and get my friends and family to fight too. TEAM OCEAN!!!!
