The Kimberley is one of Australia's most special natural places but it's under threat from fracking turning it into an industrial gas field.
Write to WA's environment watchdog and ask them to save the Kimberley!
American gas company Bennett Resources wants to drill 20 wells to explore the viability of fracking for climate-wrecking gas – but this would just be the start of fracking in the Kimberley.
Oil and gas companies are comparing the Kimberley’s Canning Basin to the Eagle Ford Basin in the U.S. In 2008, the Eagle Ford had no gas wells. Now, thanks to fracking, it has 27,000 gas wells – we can’t let the same happen to the Kimberley!
WA's environment watchdog (the WA EPA) is an independent body that assesses the environmental impact of new projects in the state. If they were to recommend a rejection of Bennett’s plans to frack the Kimberely, it would place incredible pressure on the WA Cook Government to also reject the terrible fracking plans.
The EPA is accepting public comments until Monday 7 October, so please contact them today.
Speak up for the Kimberley and its gorges, savannas and waterfalls that vulnerable creatures like the greater bilby, Gouldian finch and sawfish call home.
