Our Sunshine State has so much to be proud of. Natural beauty like the Great Barrier Reef. And tonnes of potential to create future-proof jobs through embracing renewable energy and climate action.
But Central Queensland Coal (owned by billionaire Clive Palmer) has an outrageous plan to build a huge new coal mine just 10 kilometres from the Reef's coast!
Decision-makers in the Queensland parliament need to know that the people they represent want the Reef protected – not more new dirty coal mines, which fuel climate change, in our beautiful state.
Come rally with our friends from the Australian Marine Conservation Society, Queensland Conservation Council and Stop Adani Brisbane to get our message across before the government makes a decision whether to approval or reject this dirty plan.
Wear blue (or other colourful clothes) to symbolise the beauty of the Reef and coastline that we are speaking up for, and to help make our presence eye-catching. If you can, bring along a symbol of the reef – like an image of coral, dugongs, turtles or fish.
This is an independent event run by our allies at the Australian Marine Conservation Society.
This is a family-friendly and COVID safe event. Please observe the health advice around public gatherings and COVID restrictions for your state. Bring your hand sanitiser and observe physical distancing, and do not attend if you feel unwell.
