Queenslanders, our sunshine state has the tools and talent to become a renewable energy superpower – and shift away from digging and burning fossil fuels that drive climate impacts.

Ramping up climate solutions now will create long-term jobs in our regions, help restore our incredible forests and slash climate pollution this decade.

But we need to act now and not let the opportunity slip through our fingers.

Sign the petition. We need thousands of us calling on our state government to invest in making Queensland a climate and nature champion.

Working together, Queensland CAN!

To learn more about how we replace coal and gas with clean energy and create jobs in future industries now, explore the Queensland CAN! report commissioned by ACF, the Queensland Conservation Council and World Wildlife Fund Australia.

Petition demands

We call upon the Queensland Government to:

  • Make our climate safe: Slash Queensland's climate pollution by at least half this decade; slash methane emissions from existing coal and gas infrastructure; ban new coal and gas infrastructure
  • Protect our nature: Establish an Environmental Protection Authority for Queensland; protect 100 hectares of Queensland forest this decade
  • Clean up our exports and create green jobs: Create a renewable-powered exports industry to replace coal and gas exports, with 100,000 climate-positive careers for communities; guarantee jobs for fossil fuel workers

Jobs we can create in climate solutions

I want Queensland to be a climate champion as this is the only way to guarantee a future for our children and it is possible. Sun and wind energy, storage etc, it is all there. With some stimulus from the government have more electric cars.

Queensland should be a climate and conservation leader.
The “sunshine state” needs to truly become "the smart state with regards protecting its environment and transitioning too the new energy economy.
We really have no excuse, we have a state with ample sunshine, mineral recourses, skilled work force and a unique natural heritage held in trust for future generations and the world.
We could easily use the states fossil fuel royalties and subsidies to be re directed into to a just transition for workers to the new low emission economy.
We could be the renewable energy superpower state.
Climate scientists are telling us we are virtually at the tipping point now. After the extreme weather events we have seen over the past couple of years, both in Australia and globally, you have to ask , how much more evidence does the government need before it acts, how about you spend my taxes wisely and be the smart state not the dirty, desolate, world polluting one run by fossil fuel company lobbyists.

We have the resources and the knowledge but are still lacking political will in State parliament.

I want Queensland to be a climate and nature champion because humans have raped and pillaged enough. No more. There are so many other ways to create energy by working WITH mother nature. A more harmonious relationship with Mother Earth and watch the magnificent roll on effects, such as cleaner air, greener lusher lands, massively less stress on the health system due to happier and healthier people. It’s a no-brainer. If you have a brain, choose positive options. Make a decision from a place of love, NOT fear!

CLIMATE CHANGE is an ‘Apocalyptic Peril’ compared with ‘Weapons of Mass Destruction’. All forms of FOSSIL FUELS used by human society e.g. COAL, PETROL, DIESEL etc. Pollute the Environment & also emit huge Greenhouse Gases. Since 1992 (Rio Earth Summit), CO2 emissions have increased by 100 million tons a year. Hence, our Target for NET ZERO EMISSION (100 %) of Greenhouse Gases must be 2030 & NEVER 2050 to fight the CLIMATE CRISIS.

We must take immediate action to protect and expand Queensland’s natural environment that is so essential to our well being. Our state has the resources to rapidly transition out of fossil fuels to provide clean, renewable energy and to promote more sustainable lifestyles and industry practices.

Queensland has a lot to lose if the world does not rein in carbon emissions. We are very vulnerable, as recent disasters have shown. If wealthy communities don’t get our act in order, what hope that the rest of the world will act?
