Queenslanders, our sunshine state has the tools and talent to become a renewable energy superpower – and shift away from digging and burning fossil fuels that drive climate impacts.

Ramping up climate solutions now will create long-term jobs in our regions, help restore our incredible forests and slash climate pollution this decade.

But we need to act now and not let the opportunity slip through our fingers.

Sign the petition. We need thousands of us calling on our state government to invest in making Queensland a climate and nature champion.

Working together, Queensland CAN!

To learn more about how we replace coal and gas with clean energy and create jobs in future industries now, explore the Queensland CAN! report commissioned by ACF, the Queensland Conservation Council and World Wildlife Fund Australia.

Petition demands

We call upon the Queensland Government to:

  • Make our climate safe: Slash Queensland's climate pollution by at least half this decade; slash methane emissions from existing coal and gas infrastructure; ban new coal and gas infrastructure
  • Protect our nature: Establish an Environmental Protection Authority for Queensland; protect 100 hectares of Queensland forest this decade
  • Clean up our exports and create green jobs: Create a renewable-powered exports industry to replace coal and gas exports, with 100,000 climate-positive careers for communities; guarantee jobs for fossil fuel workers

Jobs we can create in climate solutions

Queensland must become a nature and climate champion to show how it can be done. Our tropical and temperate climate boasts high diversity and richness as well as vast renewable resources such as solar, wind and waves. An Olympic opportunity presents us with the chance to show the country and world that Queensland CAN lead the world in developing renewable energy, wildlife and environment protection and livability.

To Whomever it may concern.

We must take serious action in tackling climate change and Queensland is in a prime position to lead the country as we have the weather to support a huge extension of renewable energy.

So please take action to build up our renewable sources, AND do not permit any more coal mines or gas fields to be opened up.

Yours faithfully,

I want Queensland to be a climate champion to protect our beautiful environment & barrier reef.

Queensland has had such a bad reputation as a conservation state. Here we have the worst record of clear felling our trees and neglect over caring for our native animals. Not to mention what is happening to our Great Barrier Reef.
It would be remarkable and miraculous if we could turn this around and become a greener and cleaner state. Leading the country rather than lagging behind.
Come on Queensland!.

Queensland has an abundance of resources which can make it a powerhouse for renewable energy and industries powered by renewables. We have begun the journey. Let’s spped it up and transition quickly from fossil fuels.

I would love to see Qld become a climate champion. We have the weather, the resources, & the workforce, (from mining too). No excuses & no more damage to our environment, but we have to act fast as we are, maybe, already too late to save this wonderful planet… Go, go, go…
Thankyou in advance
