Queenslanders, our sunshine state has the tools and talent to become a renewable energy superpower – and shift away from digging and burning fossil fuels that drive climate impacts.
Ramping up climate solutions now will create long-term jobs in our regions, help restore our incredible forests and slash climate pollution this decade.
But we need to act now and not let the opportunity slip through our fingers.
Sign the petition. We need thousands of us calling on our state government to invest in making Queensland a climate and nature champion.
Working together, Queensland CAN!
To learn more about how we replace coal and gas with clean energy and create jobs in future industries now, explore the Queensland CAN! report commissioned by ACF, the Queensland Conservation Council and World Wildlife Fund Australia.
Petition demands
We call upon the Queensland Government to:
-
Make our climate safe: Slash Queensland's climate pollution by at least half this decade; slash methane emissions from existing coal and gas infrastructure; ban new coal and gas infrastructure
-
Protect our nature: Establish an Environmental Protection Authority for Queensland; protect 100 hectares of Queensland forest this decade
-
Clean up our exports and create green jobs: Create a renewable-powered exports industry to replace coal and gas exports, with 100,000 climate-positive careers for communities; guarantee jobs for fossil fuel workers
Jobs we can create in climate solutions

I would like Queensland to lead the country with a shift from fossil fuel to focusing on the innovative solutions which will provide employment and give Queenslanders a sense of pride from these decisions.
Because it is essential and we can.
Our state needs to stop approving projects that increase water, soil and air pollution. Stop approving coal and gas projects – Cut our climate pollution by at least half this decade.
Back industries producing renewable energy and using sustainable processes.
Create and subsidise jobs in climate solutions, nature restoration, & sustainable land management.
Give the Environmental Protection Agency power to investigate breaches of the intention of protective laws and prosecute accordingly.
Replanting so many native forests in Qld is so very important, both for the diversity of species of flora and fauna but also to help rebalance what has been lost. Revegetation projects should be our number one focus.
Global warming and flooding is already badly affecting our state and urgent action is needed to stop pollution and increase renewable energy
I want Queensland to be a climate and nature champion because actions we take now will have the most impact on our future lives and world we live in.
I want Queensland to embrace the clean energy revolution – solar farms, pumped storage, wind turbines (BUILT IN APPROPRIATE PLACES – NOT in the precious wilderness areas on the coastal side of the great dividing range), and big batteries. I want the Qld government to foster the new industries, manufacturing & mining to support the clean energy revolution. Build manufacturing in the regions so our children have skilled jobs and don’t have to go to the capital cities and coal miners can transition. Build solar panel’s & batteries and wind turbine components in Qld and export what we don’t need. Clean energy will take pressure off our precious Great Barrier Reef so hopefully future generations can watch this wonderland regenerate.
None of this will happen without the right policies and strong leadership with clear vision & goals.
It’s the smart thing to do.
Time is running out, act now b4 it’s too late.
Protecting the environment is essential for survival.
I want Queensland to be a climate and nature champion for the future of my grandchildren and all those other grandchildren, so they can all be proud to be Queenslanders.
Queensland must become a nature and climate champion to show how it can be done. Our tropical and temperate climate boasts high diversity and richness as well as vast renewable resources such as solar, wind and waves. An Olympic opportunity presents us with the chance to show the country and world that Queensland CAN lead the world in developing renewable energy, wildlife and environment protection and livability.
