Queenslanders, our sunshine state has the tools and talent to become a renewable energy superpower – and shift away from digging and burning fossil fuels that drive climate impacts.

Ramping up climate solutions now will create long-term jobs in our regions, help restore our incredible forests and slash climate pollution this decade.

But we need to act now and not let the opportunity slip through our fingers.

Sign the petition. We need thousands of us calling on our state government to invest in making Queensland a climate and nature champion.

Working together, Queensland CAN!

To learn more about how we replace coal and gas with clean energy and create jobs in future industries now, explore the Queensland CAN! report commissioned by ACF, the Queensland Conservation Council and World Wildlife Fund Australia.

Petition demands

We call upon the Queensland Government to:

  • Make our climate safe: Slash Queensland's climate pollution by at least half this decade; slash methane emissions from existing coal and gas infrastructure; ban new coal and gas infrastructure
  • Protect our nature: Establish an Environmental Protection Authority for Queensland; protect 100 hectares of Queensland forest this decade
  • Clean up our exports and create green jobs: Create a renewable-powered exports industry to replace coal and gas exports, with 100,000 climate-positive careers for communities; guarantee jobs for fossil fuel workers

Jobs we can create in climate solutions

I am a gardener in Brisbane. Part of my duties include picking up litter throughout each site. Many of the sites I’ve worked on are warehouses and couriers. The amount of rubbish collected on these sites on a fortnightly basis are absolutely outrageous, despite having skip bins readily available. Sometimes the entire allocated time is spent picking up trash.
My daily route to work is taken on the M1 and it is completely littered by debris from poorly transported goods. Waste reduction needs to be addressed because it’s simply not good enough and companies need to be held accountable for the huge part they play in this problem.

I want the Sunshine State to be a champion of Climate Action and environmental protection because I would hate to see Queenslands diverse array of fauna, flaura and natural beauties be lost.

I want Queensland and Australia to be leaders in climate and nature conservation and restoration. We are already 10 years behind Europe in addressing climate change and taking action to decarbonise our industries and still have a long way to go.

Qld now has the opportunity to transform into an energy superpower creating long term jobs and economic security for our state as well as restoring and protecting the natural places we love, such as the Great Barrier Reef.
We must act NOW by preventing new coal and gas projects.

Qld is the most cleared state in Australia and it is still going on today! Even though we know the environmental consequences the mines are still approved are our politicians not educated enough to move towards the future or is it just greed that gets their way ? I think this country has been raped enough it’s time to put greed and ignorance aside and head towards a stable environment.
