Join our allies at Environment Centre NT this Thursday outside the Energy Resources Australia AGM to stand with the Mirarr Traditional Owners against mining Jabiluka for uranium.
Last month, we held an event with Environment Centre NT and Gundjeihmi Aboriginal Corporation commemorating 25 years since the Jabiluka blockade. It was a powerful reminder of what people-power can achieve. You can watch the recording here.
Despite this there are renewed calls from Energy Resources Australia (ERA) around future plans for Jabiluka. In its ASX preliminary report from 31 December 2022, ERA attributed a value of $90 million to the Jabiluka uranium deposit and claimed both the development or sale of Jabiluka are still possible. This view is different from that of majority shareholder Rio Tinto who accept that any window to advance Jabiluka has now closed.
With the ERA’s annual general meeting (AGM) coming up, we have an opportunity to speak up and let them know that Jabiluka must never be mined. ERA must cease presenting Jabiluka to the market as an asset with the potential to be developed and instead concentrate on the complex job of cleaning up the former Ranger mine site. Our presence at the event is crucial to achieving this.
Join us on Thursday at Hilton Darwin from 9.30am. Let's stand in solidarity with First Nations people to protect this sacred land from being destroyed by mining giants.
This event is led by our allies at Environment Centre NT.
