The platypus is one of Australia’s most iconic animals.

But platypus numbers are in decline, and this unique creature could soon be at risk of extinction.

Land clearing, dams, and drought and bushfires made worse by climate damage are destroying critical platypus habitat, leaving them with nowhere to go. To survive, platypuses need safe habitat to call home.

It’s staggering that an animal so central to our national identity isn’t adequately protected.

Sign the petition calling on Environment Minister Sussan Ley to:

  • Rapidly assess the platypus for listing as a nationally recognised threatened species.

  • Strengthen our environment laws to better protect Australia’s unique and incredible wildlife.
