Right now new federal nature laws are being drafted by the federal government.
In the 20-year history of the EPBC Act, almost all of projects assessed by the Federal Government have been approved—even in cases of overwhelming community opposition and devastating impacts on nature.
Only when the public are empowered with laws, policies and regulations that deliver a fair say in environmental decision-making will we get better outcomes for people and nature.
To take part in that decision-making, Malvern ACF are combining with the Wilderness Society's Melbourne East community group for a picnic activity at St. James Park.
Will you join us? 🍎
At this event we will:
- connect with others who care about nature 🌱 and a fair say in decision-making
- creatively colour, draw, decorate and write personal messages on a large banner featuring an outline of iconic threatened species (see mock-up above), which will be delivered to local MPs in collaboration with local ACF groups
- hand out flyers and have conversations with locals about the need for transparent and accountable federal nature laws that change the status quo for nature
- enjoy an evening picnic together - please bring a plate of delicious food
