Add your voice to call on our elected representatives to support clean energy

Our new coal and water report exposes just how much of our country’s freshwater coal corporations consume: a shocking 383 billion litres per year.

This is equivalent to the water use of all Sydneysiders or every Queensland household.

All that water to dig and burn coal – the biggest driver of climate damage, which makes droughts in this dry continent worse.

Coal uses 120 times more water than wind or solar to produce the same amount of electricity.

As our governments make choices about spending public money on creating a more resilient future, the priority is clear – more clean energy, not coal!

Sign the petition calling on our elected representatives – state and federal – to support the shift from coal to clean energy.

To our elected representatives,

  • Source all our power from sun, wind, and water by 2030
  • Phase out polluting coal and gas-fired power and rule out new coal mines or gas fields
  • Help affected workers and communities prepare for jobs with a future
  • Make sure the transition is fair so everyone, everywhere has access to clean renewable energy

I am truly amazed why the Federal Government is promoting the Construction of the Worlds Largest Carmichael Adina Coal Mine and which will also drain a massive amount of water for this environmentally damaging mine. – Hamish

without oxygen we cannot breathe.
without beauty our souls starve.

We are each responsible for our choices.

Politicians and businesses who prioritise money over stewarding our resources responsibly for future generations will have to answer to the Lord for their actions

Besides which as a nation with so much sunshine, we could do very well creating employment etc by becoming a Solar superpower and leading by example

I feel so strongly about these issues, it will influence my vote.

Leading G20 economy’s are in transition to a new paradigm without coal. I expect my Australia to catch up,

Mariana Mazzucato and Kate Raworth.

• Mazzucato has facilitated the European Parliament on their Horizon Europe programme for adaptation to climate change; cancer; healthy oceans, seas, coastal and inland waters; climate-neutral and smart cities; and soil health and food. (https://www.wired.co.uk/article/mariana-mazzucato )

• Raworth promotes a more just & sustainable economy, respecting the planet and one another.
• “Humanity’s 21st century challenge is to meet the needs of all within the means of the planet while ensuring that collectively we do not overshoot our pressure on Earth’s life-supporting systems, https://www.kateraworth.com/doughnut/#

My motivations, which might be of interest….

I want to see a stronger future for my Australia and my children. One more prosperous but respectful of people and our planet. We need to challenge the mindset of growth = good.

I see a Tsunami of transition in global energy markets coming.

It is my view a practical roadmap should make allowance for transition in energy that is respectful of people but must advance the regeneration of our planet.

I would wish to see no new investment in coal but I feel those in coal now deserve/need the dignity of meaningful work. I don’t see much shared on how this might be done.

Its a jigsaw puzzle to me. A practical energy roadmap will be helpful to me.

Thank you to all who care enough to read and sign this petition.
