The Morrison Government plans to weaken our brightest renewable funds – the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) and Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) – to let them splash cash into fossil fuels.
Investors won’t back gas – neither should Australian taxpayers.
Independent and Centre Alliance representatives in our Parliament are powerful voices for public policy in the public interest. They can do a great job in holding the Government accountable.
Their voices and their votes will be critical in the next three months as we work to keep our brightest renewable energy funds clean – and stop the Coalition giving public money to their mates in gas!
We call on Independent MPs Helen Haines, Zali Steggall, Andrew Wilkie and Rebecca Sharkie (Centre Alliance), and crossbench Senators Jacqui Lambie, Rex Patrick and Stirling Griff (Centre Alliance) to use their voices and votes and stand up for the Clean Energy Finance Corporation by:
Keep our clean energy agencies clean – don’t change their remit to support fossil fuels.
Maintain their independence – don’t give the Minister powers to override investment decisions of the independent board
Retain the requirement to deliver a return on investment to Australians – investors won’t back gas, and neither should taxpayers.
Let’s encourage Independents in the House of Representatives to use their voices to speak up for the public interest, as they have on so many important issues.
And let’s encourage Independents in the Senate to use their votes to protect our clean energy funds, as they have in the past.

Hands off the CEFC and ARENA. Australians want a planned transition to renewables, to reduce emissions and maintain jobs. We don’t want more reliance on dirty fossil fuels that are causing climate change.

Funding gas expansion and simultaneously undermining the purpose and independence of CEFC is a grim Trump like attack on the liveability of our planet

We can not only minimise global warming and save the environment for future generations but create jobs in renewable energy and secure Australia’s economic future if we are serious about eliminating even partial reliance on fossil fuels and rely on renewable energy only. Please follow the science and not big business and ideology.

CEFC and ARENA were established to support and promote clean and renewable energy. Gas is neither clean nor renewable and this Bill should not be used to fund fossil gas.
