The Morrison Government plans to weaken our brightest renewable funds – the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) and Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) – to let them splash cash into fossil fuels

Investors won’t back gas – neither should Australian taxpayers.

Independent and Centre Alliance representatives in our Parliament are powerful voices for public policy in the public interest. They can do a great job in holding the Government accountable.

Their voices and their votes will be critical in the next three months as we work to keep our brightest renewable energy funds clean – and stop the Coalition giving public money to their mates in gas!

We call on Independent MPs Helen Haines, Zali Steggall, Andrew Wilkie and Rebecca Sharkie (Centre Alliance), and crossbench Senators Jacqui Lambie, Rex Patrick and Stirling Griff (Centre Alliance) to use their voices and votes and stand up for the Clean Energy Finance Corporation by:

  • Keep our clean energy agencies clean – don’t change their remit to support fossil fuels.
  • Maintain their independence – don’t give the Minister powers to override investment decisions of the independent board
  • Retain the requirement to deliver a return on investment to Australians – investors won’t back gas, and neither should taxpayers.

Let’s encourage Independents in the House of Representatives to use their voices to speak up for the public interest, as they have on so many important issues.

And let’s encourage Independents in the Senate to use their votes to protect our clean energy funds, as they have in the past.

It is vital to have policies based on renewables and for industry and the community to have a clear government policy.

We need renewable clean energy options to power our way out of recession. Do not use money targeted for clean energy to prop up polluting fossil fuel industry.

Independents, stand up for our planet. Do not vote in favour of expanding the use of fossil fuels. Rather, vote to enable investments in renewables and battery storage.

We need to promote renewables. Enabling Carbon fuels is backwards thinking.

We need new laws in Australia so that no-one, especially fossil fuel companies, can BRIBE the government of the day. It must stop!

Give Australia a future – and a clean future please! We have no need for backward-looking old technologies that serve short term interests. Opt for scientifically based solutions that give us a sustainable future
