The Morrison Government plans to weaken our brightest renewable funds – the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) and Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) – to let them splash cash into fossil fuels

Investors won’t back gas – neither should Australian taxpayers.

Independent and Centre Alliance representatives in our Parliament are powerful voices for public policy in the public interest. They can do a great job in holding the Government accountable.

Their voices and their votes will be critical in the next three months as we work to keep our brightest renewable energy funds clean – and stop the Coalition giving public money to their mates in gas!

We call on Independent MPs Helen Haines, Zali Steggall, Andrew Wilkie and Rebecca Sharkie (Centre Alliance), and crossbench Senators Jacqui Lambie, Rex Patrick and Stirling Griff (Centre Alliance) to use their voices and votes and stand up for the Clean Energy Finance Corporation by:

  • Keep our clean energy agencies clean – don’t change their remit to support fossil fuels.
  • Maintain their independence – don’t give the Minister powers to override investment decisions of the independent board
  • Retain the requirement to deliver a return on investment to Australians – investors won’t back gas, and neither should taxpayers.

Let’s encourage Independents in the House of Representatives to use their voices to speak up for the public interest, as they have on so many important issues.

And let’s encourage Independents in the Senate to use their votes to protect our clean energy funds, as they have in the past.

lets get out of gas & coal now, and go full on into renewables, to try and curb globel warming, like Morrison says STOP IT!

Gas is not a long term answer. Please don’t pass the legislation until the Morrison government announces a detailed plan, showing how gas will help us meet our Paris targets.

We should be pouring our time, energy and money into generation and refinement of renewable energy sources, not killing our planet with the same old.

Having failed to abolish these remaining bits of the Gillard/Greens carbon-pricing system – thanks to some good work in the Senate – the Coalition has:
1 Never been too proud to cite them when Australian climate inaction is criticised.
2 Now trying again to sabotage them so that they start working against their original purpose.

Please keep our future clean and green. Don’t give the Minister powers to override investment decisions of the independent board.

Scientists from around the world have said we need to stop using fossil fuels and move to renewable energy to reduce global emissions. Why does the government continue to ignore their advice, particularly given the devastating fires we witnessed this year. I have eight grandchildren and I am very concerned about their future.

Gas is a fossil fuel. Only fossils would think it is okay to continue burning it but I guess that applies to members of the LNP. This is just giving taxpayers money to wealthy individual supporters of the LNP to prop up an industry that the banks won’t fund.
