The Morrison Government plans to weaken our brightest renewable funds – the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) and Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) – to let them splash cash into fossil fuels

Investors won’t back gas – neither should Australian taxpayers.

Independent and Centre Alliance representatives in our Parliament are powerful voices for public policy in the public interest. They can do a great job in holding the Government accountable.

Their voices and their votes will be critical in the next three months as we work to keep our brightest renewable energy funds clean – and stop the Coalition giving public money to their mates in gas!

We call on Independent MPs Helen Haines, Zali Steggall, Andrew Wilkie and Rebecca Sharkie (Centre Alliance), and crossbench Senators Jacqui Lambie, Rex Patrick and Stirling Griff (Centre Alliance) to use their voices and votes and stand up for the Clean Energy Finance Corporation by:

  • Keep our clean energy agencies clean – don’t change their remit to support fossil fuels.
  • Maintain their independence – don’t give the Minister powers to override investment decisions of the independent board
  • Retain the requirement to deliver a return on investment to Australians – investors won’t back gas, and neither should taxpayers.

Let’s encourage Independents in the House of Representatives to use their voices to speak up for the public interest, as they have on so many important issues.

And let’s encourage Independents in the Senate to use their votes to protect our clean energy funds, as they have in the past.

We have a moral responsibility to progressively phase out fossil fuels, not increase their use.

They still support global warming and lining the pockets of the rich with yet more money, while everything else goes wanting; Education, Health, NDIS, Environment, Science, Technology. We are becoming a nation of troglodytes.

I wrote to our local MP (Labor). He was fully backing the gas project saying how wonderful it was for jobs etc. No foresight. No future. Please act sensibly and reject this project.

Gas is a fossil fuel. Why is the government propping up fossil fuels, when fossil fuels are driving Black Summers?

Mr Morrison, You did a great job during COVID. Don’t undo all the goodwill with the electorate by neglecting the bigger issue of protecting the environment.

We have a chance to start living within our means; let’s not miss it.
Please will you represent my voice in parliament? I say, there is zero justification for tearing more more at country for energy fuel when we have all we need above ground already. Focus on that. Invest in that. Jobs, energy, everything we actually need can be satisfied without committing further damage as per the Morrison Government’s wishes. That is not naivety; it’s reality. The belief that our covid generated economic slump will be solved by more unnecessary destruction is the naive view. Morrison and co. you do NOT have my blessing to solve our nation’s problems by weakening environmental protections and investing in mining for fossil fuels!
