The Morrison Government plans to weaken our brightest renewable funds – the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) and Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) – to let them splash cash into fossil fuels

Investors won’t back gas – neither should Australian taxpayers.

Independent and Centre Alliance representatives in our Parliament are powerful voices for public policy in the public interest. They can do a great job in holding the Government accountable.

Their voices and their votes will be critical in the next three months as we work to keep our brightest renewable energy funds clean – and stop the Coalition giving public money to their mates in gas!

We call on Independent MPs Helen Haines, Zali Steggall, Andrew Wilkie and Rebecca Sharkie (Centre Alliance), and crossbench Senators Jacqui Lambie, Rex Patrick and Stirling Griff (Centre Alliance) to use their voices and votes and stand up for the Clean Energy Finance Corporation by:

  • Keep our clean energy agencies clean – don’t change their remit to support fossil fuels.
  • Maintain their independence – don’t give the Minister powers to override investment decisions of the independent board
  • Retain the requirement to deliver a return on investment to Australians – investors won’t back gas, and neither should taxpayers.

Let’s encourage Independents in the House of Representatives to use their voices to speak up for the public interest, as they have on so many important issues.

And let’s encourage Independents in the Senate to use their votes to protect our clean energy funds, as they have in the past.

The Morrison gas plan is motivated out of self interest and ideology. I refuse to let the government use my taxes to prop up the wealthy and contribute to global warming in this way.

Please study carefully the ‘Million Jobs Plan’ from Beyond Zero Emissions. It is very-well informed, totally politically independent, and makes an extremely strong case for a practical way to get to a low carbon economy, very fast, with a vast range of economic employment benefits to Australia, esp. in the regions. It is capable of unlocking vast amounts of private investment capital. It makes best use of Australia’s great natural advantages. Any use of gas now simply slows down the transition we urgently need and have to have.
Please do all you can to stop any further development of gas—which is simply NUTS. Please do all you can to promote the strategies set out so clearly and compellingly in the Million Jobs Plan. Sincerely, Geoff Cumming

More gas will NOT bring down cost, will NOT help employment but WILL contribute to more extreme climate conditions that WILL cost all of us and the environment we love.

Don’t be the government that made the wrong decision for the Australians of the future when the economic and scientific evidence for the contrary is staring you in the face.

Fossil fuels are causing global warming, as well as local damage caused by their mining. It is time to stop extracting these resources & move to renewable energy.

Please vote against any effort by the Coalition to support a gas-fired recovery. Only political fossils vote to subsidize fossil fuels.

I am outraged at the government’s plans to back gas. Australia has a responsibility to reduce ghg emissions not increase them. Please don’t support the gas industry and insist on clean renewable energy as the rest of the world and indeed life itself depends on these important decisions now.

Gas should stay in the Ground and start a Carbon Capture Plant Instead.

Wake up Australia. What exactly will it take for the Government to realise that renewable energy is the future?
