The Morrison Government plans to weaken our brightest renewable funds – the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) and Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) – to let them splash cash into fossil fuels

Investors won’t back gas – neither should Australian taxpayers.

Independent and Centre Alliance representatives in our Parliament are powerful voices for public policy in the public interest. They can do a great job in holding the Government accountable.

Their voices and their votes will be critical in the next three months as we work to keep our brightest renewable energy funds clean – and stop the Coalition giving public money to their mates in gas!

We call on Independent MPs Helen Haines, Zali Steggall, Andrew Wilkie and Rebecca Sharkie (Centre Alliance), and crossbench Senators Jacqui Lambie, Rex Patrick and Stirling Griff (Centre Alliance) to use their voices and votes and stand up for the Clean Energy Finance Corporation by:

  • Keep our clean energy agencies clean – don’t change their remit to support fossil fuels.
  • Maintain their independence – don’t give the Minister powers to override investment decisions of the independent board
  • Retain the requirement to deliver a return on investment to Australians – investors won’t back gas, and neither should taxpayers.

Let’s encourage Independents in the House of Representatives to use their voices to speak up for the public interest, as they have on so many important issues.

And let’s encourage Independents in the Senate to use their votes to protect our clean energy funds, as they have in the past.

This government is so very far behind the game. They think they are being clever, demeaning, raping and stripping every single attempt to move towards a sustainable and profitable future. They are determined to go the direction that leaves us broke, and the country denuded; not to mention a laughing stock. And what is Labor doing? SFA.

Why punish the underprivileged, through neglect and arrogance to prop up your mates short term to irreversibly damage the environment long term. Your kids and grand kids need somewhere to live with food to eat, and clean air to breath

The world isn’t getting any cooler. We are ALL stakeholders in the planet’s climate and if it gets any worse, we all ALL suffer from its consequences collectively and globally – regardless of whether you are part of the movement against climate change or part of the rich corporations with a stake in fossil fuel; the global and environmental devestation that is about to ensue is not going to discriminate between us as a people, its going to eliminate us.

Gas is not the answer. It seems clear that with gas leakage, it’s as dirty as coal. More focus on renewables is necessary. It’s time that this government gets a clear message that its backward policies are really keeping Australia from reducing its emissions.

Turn your faces to the New World, run by sustainable non-polluting, non-depleting fuel sources! Fossil fuels are just that – fossils! No place for them in the new world unfolding around us as we see the damage wrought by their ignorant use.
