The Morrison Government plans to weaken our brightest renewable funds – the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) and Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) – to let them splash cash into fossil fuels

Investors won’t back gas – neither should Australian taxpayers.

Independent and Centre Alliance representatives in our Parliament are powerful voices for public policy in the public interest. They can do a great job in holding the Government accountable.

Their voices and their votes will be critical in the next three months as we work to keep our brightest renewable energy funds clean – and stop the Coalition giving public money to their mates in gas!

We call on Independent MPs Helen Haines, Zali Steggall, Andrew Wilkie and Rebecca Sharkie (Centre Alliance), and crossbench Senators Jacqui Lambie, Rex Patrick and Stirling Griff (Centre Alliance) to use their voices and votes and stand up for the Clean Energy Finance Corporation by:

  • Keep our clean energy agencies clean – don’t change their remit to support fossil fuels.
  • Maintain their independence – don’t give the Minister powers to override investment decisions of the independent board
  • Retain the requirement to deliver a return on investment to Australians – investors won’t back gas, and neither should taxpayers.

Let’s encourage Independents in the House of Representatives to use their voices to speak up for the public interest, as they have on so many important issues.

And let’s encourage Independents in the Senate to use their votes to protect our clean energy funds, as they have in the past.

A move to renewables and clean energy does not mean job losses, it means huge opportunity we can make a reality. Let’s do it now!

We do not need anymore coal mines in Australia. I want my descendants to see the koalas & our other beautiful native animals in their lifetime. It’s evil that our governments chop down the wildlife habitats for fossil fuels. Tourists won’t get a photo taken with lump of coal or a photo of a politician.

This is extremely necessary! We cannot keep supporting fossil fuels damaging our environment. Eventually, Australia will run out, and miss out on the ethical and economical opportunity of investing in renewable energy.

It’s disgusting to think that our government is proud of hitting 22% renewable energy in 2020
