The Morrison Government plans to weaken our brightest renewable funds – the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) and Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) – to let them splash cash into fossil fuels

Investors won’t back gas – neither should Australian taxpayers.

Independent and Centre Alliance representatives in our Parliament are powerful voices for public policy in the public interest. They can do a great job in holding the Government accountable.

Their voices and their votes will be critical in the next three months as we work to keep our brightest renewable energy funds clean – and stop the Coalition giving public money to their mates in gas!

We call on Independent MPs Helen Haines, Zali Steggall, Andrew Wilkie and Rebecca Sharkie (Centre Alliance), and crossbench Senators Jacqui Lambie, Rex Patrick and Stirling Griff (Centre Alliance) to use their voices and votes and stand up for the Clean Energy Finance Corporation by:

  • Keep our clean energy agencies clean – don’t change their remit to support fossil fuels.
  • Maintain their independence – don’t give the Minister powers to override investment decisions of the independent board
  • Retain the requirement to deliver a return on investment to Australians – investors won’t back gas, and neither should taxpayers.

Let’s encourage Independents in the House of Representatives to use their voices to speak up for the public interest, as they have on so many important issues.

And let’s encourage Independents in the Senate to use their votes to protect our clean energy funds, as they have in the past.

Gas is not the future. Our public funds must not be used to support or enhance the continued use of fossil fuels to the detriment of the environment and our future.

Dear Senators Lambie, Rex Patrick and Stirling Griff,
I ask you please oppose the CEFC amendment bill. Please vote against the Government Gas is dirty and cause high global heating problem. Gas has a very high fugitives rate and the ways gas is extracted from underground cause a lot of harm to Australian fertile farmland and national parks. 40,000 wells and 15 million litres of water loaded with topix chemicals are pump into each well each fracking. Thank you for listening to concern of Australia citizens

It is urgent to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and clean energy will help do that. Fiddling around with the CEFC is a waste of parliamentary resources. Speak up against this foolish bill, vote it down.

Gas led recovery will not deliver as much benefit as moving our focus to renewable energy.
