Australia has one of the highest rates of extinction in the world. The government has not done nearly enough to protect our native fauna such as the Palm cockatoo for the future generations to enjoy. The people of Australian expect and demand much better and action now!

Maintaining biodiversity is vital for our future. We need it, to keep vital earth systems in check. Deforestation leads to an increased hot island effect, reduces rainfall as plants are a part of the water cycle, and reduces carbon storage which is essential considering climate change is impacting us more and more. The creatures kept alive by maintaining their habitat also play a significant role for the ecosystem. Even if you don’t respect these creatures as incredible in their own rights, they need to be preserved for our own benefit. It is illogical to focus on short term financial gain when the cost is a long term struggle: humanity cannot be sustained if mass extinction continues
There is increasing evidence of decreasing populations of wildlife here where I live on the edge of Brisbane, even though there are forests surrounding this area. I am especially concerned at the diminishment of bird sitings .
We need more environmental protection laws for our native flora and fauna.

Hi! Could you please speak out on my behalf to strengthen animal protection laws by promoting any actions that help protect their habitat? It’s so sad and I feel so helpless trying to do this by myself, but together we could do positive things to make sure my young daughter can see these animals in her future. Can you be the one who takes the lead as a role model by taking the responsibility to say STOP? How can we possibly let our children know that we let this happen? That we let our QLD forests be bulldozed? And why is this a hush hush issue? In February I read in the Economist that is is estimated that 45m animals were killed in QLD’s bushland bulldozing between 2015 and 2016. Why are the permissive forestry laws there when the government spends billions on conserving native species, planting and fighting climate change? There is clearly a huge rift in priorities and this makes us believe that we can’t rely on anyone to stand up for sustaining our precious environment.
Please be the one that makes a stand and leads by example. Do not let our ancient land be raped by logging companies.
