We have already seen some community energy projects installed in the South Gippsland area, and there is a huge potential to see more become a reality.
Dr. Moragh Mackay (PhD) has been steadily working at the community level in Gippsland for over 20 years. She specialises in collaboration across the community-government-industry interface and is a great facilitator in peer-to-peer learning and project co-design - a perfect resume for supporting new community energy projects.
One such project is the Sandy Point Community Power group that has been developing plans for their beachside town. Phil Cornwell and Frank Schrever are Sandy Point residents who will present insights into the group's experience thus far.
Even with the Bushfire Royal Commission's findings confirming that climate change fuelled the Black Summer bushfires, we know that we can't rely on the Federal Government to switch off coal quickly. Our townships have the means to turn their backs on coal-fired power and mobilise our communities towards a better way, keeping decision making about profits in the community.
ACF Community Prom Area Climate Action is part of a network of independently organised, volunteer-run groups in the ACF community. ACF will pass on your contact details to the host for the purpose of running the event.
