Coles and Woolworths both claim they’re doing good things for our climate.
So why are these supermarkets both card-carrying members of one of Australia’s shadiest climate-wrecking lobby groups: the Business Council of Australia (BCA)? It just doesn't check out.
Over the past few decades the BCA has strategically undermined a long list of climate policies in Australia. As a result, climate pollution in this country is going up, not down like it must if we are to continue enjoying life on our beautiful planet.
By weakening the BCA’s membership, we can neutralise their influence over climate policy in Australia – and get back on track in building a future that’s good for everyone and every living thing.
Sign the open letter now asking Coles and Woolworths to leave the climate-wrecking BCA:
As customers, shareholders and employees of Coles and Woolworths, we call on the supermarket giants to leave the Business Council of Australia (BCA) – it continues to undermine climate policy in Australia and advocate for the weakening of environmental laws.
We are concerned about the climate crisis and want action.

I’m a regular Woolworths customer and want to see real action on climate, particularly reducing plastic pollution.
I resent that I am locked into being a customer of Coles. I also resent this government and their greedy selfish mates for destroying the whole ecosystem that makes human life possible. Frankly for their EVIL, they all deserve to die horrible and slow deaths starting from now – please VOTE them out and then incarcerate them in a COVID infected prison.
Hello Cole’s and Woolworths I urge you to think long and hard at maintaining your business relationship with BCA ( Business Council of Australia) . Their attitude and business models in regard to climate change and environmental policy and issues are extremely risky. And poor when considering climate change and a healthy planet . As climate change/ environmental legislation changes , your businesses will be at risk especially in the financial sector. Look to the UK and European markets and political environmental trends. Australia will soon follow these trends and your companies will not be considered world leaders but polluters . Think of the financial and environmental risk.
Is BCA business relationship Worth it?
Come on Coles and Woolworths – use your power in the BCA to do more to lower emissions targets for Aus and please stop supporting the coal industry. Make your customers happy by installing and using sustainable energy in your supermarkets. Solar cells on every roof and car park …

The COVID-19 pandemic is yet another wake-up call. Our species’ continued existence depends on the health of our natural environment. It’s in everyone’s interest, especially your own, to act on the science. There is no economy on a dead planet.
Over the past few decades the BCA has strategically undermined a long list of climate policies in Australia, so why are Coles and Woolworths still supporting them?
Your support makes you complicit in the devastating damage to our climate. Your support contributed to the destruction that the bushfires caused, burning for 200+ days. This fire season was predicted by Climate Scientists and we did nothing. We need to act now.
