As bushfires rage across the country, the Queensland government is considering a secret deal with Adani that could mean the coal corporation pockets hundreds of millions of dollars of public money for its climate-wrecking mine.

Analysis by The Australia Institute shows Adani’s special coal royalty deal could be worth between $250 and $700 million dollars. The Palaszczuk Government has refused to reveal the terms of this shady arrangement, claiming it’s too confidential for us to know about.

Our elected representatives have a responsibility to create a future where our communities, reef and wildlife thrive, not prop up dirty coal.
Add your name to this open letter to send the Premier a clear message — no dirty royalty deal for Adani:

“Dear Premier,

During the last Queensland election you promised there would be no public money for Adani’s climate-wrecking coal mine.

If Adani’s mine goes ahead it would unleash billions of tonnes of pollution, at a time when we must rapidly phase out coal and take urgent action on the climate crisis.

We ask you to keep your election promise and not cut a special royalty deal with Adani.”

This is absurd – as bushfires destroy so much of our precious environment, Adani’s deal will significantly do the same. Why on earth, would our Government wish to add to this harm, rather than protect it?

We need a long term vision and plan to transition from coal. The Adani mine will entrench the production and burning of coal for decades.

There are no benefits to this. Minimum number of jobs locally. A few IT jobs probably overseas. Complete rape of the landscape and imeasurable damage to our country for cheap quick political gain.

I believe coal mining is the soul source in Australia for coral bleaching, ocean acidity levels rising and of course the bush fires.

What are the politicians doing?
Trying to turn Australia into a desert.

Australia is a naturally rich country with lots of resources.

I believe that if I’m Australia we can focus on collecting renewable energy from our coastlines.

Renewable energy by using public solar phone charging stations at beaches and parks.

Using the roads and roofs to collect solar energy to help run our cities.

I believe that if there is a will there is a way.

Australia is behind the times.

We need to start taking action on our environmental damage and start protecting the planet we have.

It’s so disappointing to see that so many young Australians and even old ones aren’t educated on climate change and environmental damage from coal and other damaging activities performed by the government.

The economy:

The Australia economy is very much reliant on the coal industry.

It brings in the most revenue from overseas.

Which is why ‘Adani’ was built.

I’m 18 and I remember when Anastasia announced they were building the mine.
My heart sank in my chest as a saw the memories of the beautiful schools of fish in the Great Barrier Reef slowly drifting into the distance.

We need to make a stand now!

I’d love to be able to help out as much as I can for this issue because I truly believe it is the most important thing in this world today.

Environment is everything.

As this country burns to assist the building of the Adani coal mine is a disgrace. The government should look to Germany to see how they assisted workers to transition from working in coal mines. Coal is a nasty dirty industry which ruins the health of the people who do the job. It belongs in the 19th century where is your vision of a cleaner healthier future.

Stop Adani and don’t become complicit in their actions to destroy more land and add to the climate crisis!

Do not support the Adani Mine in the Galilee Basin.
The subsidies " don’t need" should be spent on a renewable power program to create long term jobs in Queensland.
The mine will be a screwup and will leave a stain on your legacy. Be smart and think long term.
