As bushfires rage across the country, the Queensland government is considering a secret deal with Adani that could mean the coal corporation pockets hundreds of millions of dollars of public money for its climate-wrecking mine.
Analysis by The Australia Institute shows Adani’s special coal royalty deal could be worth between $250 and $700 million dollars. The Palaszczuk Government has refused to reveal the terms of this shady arrangement, claiming it’s too confidential for us to know about.
Our elected representatives have a responsibility to create a future where our communities, reef and wildlife thrive, not prop up dirty coal.
Add your name to this open letter to send the Premier a clear message — no dirty royalty deal for Adani:
“Dear Premier,
During the last Queensland election you promised there would be no public money for Adani’s climate-wrecking coal mine.
If Adani’s mine goes ahead it would unleash billions of tonnes of pollution, at a time when we must rapidly phase out coal and take urgent action on the climate crisis.
We ask you to keep your election promise and not cut a special royalty deal with Adani.”

The last thing this country needs is another coal mine. Mr Adani is a well-known liar and has terrible reputationin his own country.
All the money in the world would not make this deal worthwhile. The mine will produce a huge amount of pollution contaminating both land and sea, as well as using millions and millions and millions of litres of our precious water , now neede to put out bushfires,
which the company will then dump into the sea
Queensland needs to stop supporting coal. Halt Adani
now.
Supporting this coal mine is insanity in the face of worsening climate change! We desperately need to stop the use of fossil fuels & move to a low carbon future, all of life depends on this! My children deserve a safe climate future, and it breaks my heart to see my home suffering from unprecedented bush fires, this is only going to get worse. The oceans are warming and becoming acidic, we need serious action to stop increasing the levels of CO2 in our atmosphere. Protect our futures, don’t support coal mining. Be on the right side of history.
The cost of this proposed mine is too high. Please let our water resources, our farmers and our reef survive by not paying for this climate changing mine.
Dear premier when are you going to listen to the people of Qld and start to understand we do not want this mine and their free access to our ground water while our farmers and their cattle are dying of crippling debt and thirst. You have blood on your hands by not helping our farming communities, they have to buy water while you and your government grand free access to mining companies. I am ashamed to call myself a Queenslander.
Please stop spending tax payers’ money on climate-wrecking ventures. We need to start being active to ensure a good future for the next generation, not lining the pockets of old coal magnates who will probably be dead in 20-25 years.
It is wrong to do this. Do not do it.
Do not do this. it is wrong.
It is unbelievable that this coal mine is going ahead at all. Do not add further insult to the Australian people by allowing this further travesty. We need to focus on building a clean green environment.
