As bushfires rage across the country, the Queensland government is considering a secret deal with Adani that could mean the coal corporation pockets hundreds of millions of dollars of public money for its climate-wrecking mine.
Analysis by The Australia Institute shows Adani’s special coal royalty deal could be worth between $250 and $700 million dollars. The Palaszczuk Government has refused to reveal the terms of this shady arrangement, claiming it’s too confidential for us to know about.
Our elected representatives have a responsibility to create a future where our communities, reef and wildlife thrive, not prop up dirty coal.
Add your name to this open letter to send the Premier a clear message — no dirty royalty deal for Adani:
“Dear Premier,
During the last Queensland election you promised there would be no public money for Adani’s climate-wrecking coal mine.
If Adani’s mine goes ahead it would unleash billions of tonnes of pollution, at a time when we must rapidly phase out coal and take urgent action on the climate crisis.
We ask you to keep your election promise and not cut a special royalty deal with Adani.”

This mine is a disaster which will have a huge detrimental effect on our already dire position due to the impact of fossil fuels. The furfie that the mine will create thousands of jobs is not sustainable due to the rapid adoption of technology which will replace most of the workers.
You promised there would be no public money going into this private climate wrecker of a project. But now you are set to give them a deal which effectively is money in their pockets. The truth will come out, and next year the public will be asking if they an vote for a premier who doesn’t keep her word.
Don’t let Adani touch Australia; you corrupt pieces of shit
If a Labor government does this in Queensland Labor will lose Ma y of its working class base. Wake up our planet is in trouble. You are working for us! The people DO NOT DO THIS.! Stop ADINI.
No Adani Mine Please, No Public Money
If you want to win the next election, stop pandering to Adani!!
Just stop this mine. It is just a big ‘no win’ deal all Australians and the only winner will be the Adani Company. How can you possible believe this is good for Queensland and Australia. Shame.
The majority of Australians want action on climate change, to transition from fossil fuels. The transition will be hard but there is no other solution. In 2019 it is unethical and negligent to even consider building a massive new coal mine.
Come back from the brink and stop pandering to foreign interest!!!
Fact. This is a corrupt company that launders money in tax havens and have breached many laws and regulations in India. So why do you want them here?
Australia is facing unprecedented weather and climate conditions and will continue to do so as temperatures rise. As one of the largest exports of coal on this planet, Australia needs to set an example and transition away from the mining, production and exportation of fossil fuels. Figures from the latest IPCC report indicate that the world has very limited time to prevent the most drastic impacts of climate change. If we don’t make the decision now, then when? I attended an event run by school students yesterday where several leading professors, politicians and activists spoke about the impacts of climate change. Kids are being taught, whether we like it or not, what the future is going to look like for them and how to mitigate the risks and issues of climate change. It breaks my heart that one day, when I have kids, I will have to do the same. All of us will have to do the same. Is that what you want for your children? For your friends and your relatives children? Make the decision today so that in the future you can tell them that you did everything in your power to prevent it, and hopefully it’s a story about a catastrophic event that could of happened but didn’t because of people like you.
