As bushfires rage across the country, the Queensland government is considering a secret deal with Adani that could mean the coal corporation pockets hundreds of millions of dollars of public money for its climate-wrecking mine.
Analysis by The Australia Institute shows Adani’s special coal royalty deal could be worth between $250 and $700 million dollars. The Palaszczuk Government has refused to reveal the terms of this shady arrangement, claiming it’s too confidential for us to know about.
Our elected representatives have a responsibility to create a future where our communities, reef and wildlife thrive, not prop up dirty coal.
Add your name to this open letter to send the Premier a clear message — no dirty royalty deal for Adani:
“Dear Premier,
During the last Queensland election you promised there would be no public money for Adani’s climate-wrecking coal mine.
If Adani’s mine goes ahead it would unleash billions of tonnes of pollution, at a time when we must rapidly phase out coal and take urgent action on the climate crisis.
We ask you to keep your election promise and not cut a special royalty deal with Adani.”

It is vital this project bei closed down. There is far too much at risk to allow it to continue. NO money from taxpayers should be used except to stop the project.
Coal is bad business and bad for the planet.
Billions of tonnes of pollution, risk to fragile ecosystems (land and marine) and jeopardising the Great Artesian Basin, and a world that is phasing out thermal coal make it a very bad place to be putting taxpayer investment.
Please Premier don’t prop up this private business. Consider your and everyone elses grandchildren and the climate devastated world we will leave. For God sake, think beyond short term wealth.
Do Not Cut a deal with Adani. No public money, no royalty free holiday. Thermal coal is Dirty and outdated thus mine should not be going ahead at this time in history. Wrong place, wrong time. So disappointing to say the least!!!
This coal mining company owned by billionaires is already grasping at precious water supplies. They should at least PAY for the Australian resources they are taking away. AND clean up the mess they leave behind.
Not in my backyard! we have to save the reef and the jobs it provides!
Premier please do the right thing and stop Adani. Give this money to the coal towns who will miss out and give them solar projects.
Traditional Parties entangled with the fossil fuel industry are ruining this country. The IMF refers to “perverse public subsidies” that must end if we are to meet the goals of the sustainable development agenda by 2030 adopted by every member state of the UN in 2015 (only the 2nd time in the UN’s 70 year history that unanimous agreement was reach by the General Assembly).
