As bushfires rage across the country, the Queensland government is considering a secret deal with Adani that could mean the coal corporation pockets hundreds of millions of dollars of public money for its climate-wrecking mine.

Analysis by The Australia Institute shows Adani’s special coal royalty deal could be worth between $250 and $700 million dollars. The Palaszczuk Government has refused to reveal the terms of this shady arrangement, claiming it’s too confidential for us to know about.

Our elected representatives have a responsibility to create a future where our communities, reef and wildlife thrive, not prop up dirty coal.
Add your name to this open letter to send the Premier a clear message — no dirty royalty deal for Adani:

“Dear Premier,

During the last Queensland election you promised there would be no public money for Adani’s climate-wrecking coal mine.

If Adani’s mine goes ahead it would unleash billions of tonnes of pollution, at a time when we must rapidly phase out coal and take urgent action on the climate crisis.

We ask you to keep your election promise and not cut a special royalty deal with Adani.”

Please support your constituents by saying NO to the Adani mine. Their track record shows they will disregard our environmental laws, and wreck the environment beyond repair as they have done over and over in other countries where they have been allowed to operate. They will also abuse and misuse our groundwater which is needed for drought-stricken farmers and to fight ongoing fires throughout Queensland and NSW. Protect our state and its natural resources for the future and say NO to the Adani mine for Queensland.

I commend the new koala habitats but it doesn’t excuse the theft of our groundwater by coal mining!

This is earth shattering! And history won’t exonerate this level of ignorance.

The overwhelming science is very clear. . The burning of coal releases greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, increasing levels of CO2 and other gasses, trapping heat, and contributing to global climate change. All Governments in Australia (and around the world) must act on behalf of community not to take actions that have direct links to increases in greenhouse gases. Adani must not proceed if we are to protect our children and grandchildren. Annastacia Palaszczuk you promised at the last elections that no QLD Govt support would be given to Adani, you must be good on your word for all Australians.

Please don’t do this. Australia is burning. I have friends who have lost homes and I have been living with smoke for weeks. I fear for our grand children and we need strong leaders to stand up and make changes. Coal is not the way and we know it. Those who support coal now will not be remembered kindly by history.

Our land can’t be dug up and our precious water wasted. We have to think of the environment, climate, our animals and our farmers!!! DO NOT LET ADANI INTO OUR COUNTRY!!!

Let’s follow Australian tradition of fair go for all, including Adani. We all pay taxes, so should Adani.

ALP not to compromise on Adani project, doesn’t stack up against true costs – water, carbon, environment… please stand tall!

This does not make sense environmentally, culturally or fro the other Qld Gov endorsed CSG and mining operations, even financially for Qld/Australia. Are we so desperate and shortsighted that we will risk the Great Artesian Basin and the Great Barrier Reef for this? We want accountable, sensible and ethical leadership. This is corrupt, for a few 1000 jobs. A smart Government presents alternatives and acts to serve its people and protect its greatest resources, our environment. If the Qld Labour Government there’s no turning back and very little hope for our future.
