As bushfires rage across the country, the Queensland government is considering a secret deal with Adani that could mean the coal corporation pockets hundreds of millions of dollars of public money for its climate-wrecking mine.

Analysis by The Australia Institute shows Adani’s special coal royalty deal could be worth between $250 and $700 million dollars. The Palaszczuk Government has refused to reveal the terms of this shady arrangement, claiming it’s too confidential for us to know about.

Our elected representatives have a responsibility to create a future where our communities, reef and wildlife thrive, not prop up dirty coal.
Add your name to this open letter to send the Premier a clear message — no dirty royalty deal for Adani:

“Dear Premier,

During the last Queensland election you promised there would be no public money for Adani’s climate-wrecking coal mine.

If Adani’s mine goes ahead it would unleash billions of tonnes of pollution, at a time when we must rapidly phase out coal and take urgent action on the climate crisis.

We ask you to keep your election promise and not cut a special royalty deal with Adani.”

There is no future in coal. There is no long-term future, economically or sustainably, for the people of Qld. If the P.M. had his way we would all be eating coal so given the lack of insight our leaders are offering why do you Premier follow in their footsteps?

Please be the one in government who has the guts to choose for the planet and not the pocket.

Dear Premier
I have loved many of your decisions whilst our Premier …. however backing Adani is not one of them – I understand you have to balance many financially beneficial incomes for our State but Qld, Australia and the world can no longer be involved in Fossil Fuel production as evidenced by the horrific events over the last few months in Australia
Please please reconsider your decision – also Adani’s track record with regard to the environment and being a trustworthy entity is as you know very questionable !

As a resident of Queensland and an active voter I would like my position noted that I am against building the Adani Coal Mine and everything that this organisation stands for. We should be funnelling money into renewable energy and reducing coal and gas plants, not opening new ones. The long term effects of this have catastrophic effects on our Great Barrier Reef and the environment as a whole. This is madness and must be stopped. If Adani also automates their plant as they have indicated what jobs will this create? We need to channel and retrain mine workers for jobs of the future – in renewable energy. The government is meant to reflect the views of the people and this is a disgrace.

I thought politicians were voted into government to work for the betterment of the people and country they were supposed to be governing. Clearly, giving Adani the permission to mine is not for either, so why is it being permitted?

With everything that is going on lately with the climate crisis being a huge topic globally, going ahead with supporting Adani and giving them access to water and building this mile in a ludicrous idea. It doesn’t put the Queensland government in a position where people are going to feel they can trust in it and want to listen.
This is the worst thing that the Australian government could consider doing to this country right now. We need to be proactive with our decisions, this is suicide

wake up . far more jobs in ensuring that the environment is looked after than there is in a completely spurious project like Adani

Time to think of our future for sustainable living, and not short term financial gain. Actually that time was decades ago, but nothing significant has happened, so it’s very very urgent now.

We are sick of the careless destruction of the country, the short term attitude of blinkered politicians who would rather do deals for themselves than think more widely and catch up with the rest of the worl with forward and sustainable thinking.
