As bushfires rage across the country, the Queensland government is considering a secret deal with Adani that could mean the coal corporation pockets hundreds of millions of dollars of public money for its climate-wrecking mine.

Analysis by The Australia Institute shows Adani’s special coal royalty deal could be worth between $250 and $700 million dollars. The Palaszczuk Government has refused to reveal the terms of this shady arrangement, claiming it’s too confidential for us to know about.

Our elected representatives have a responsibility to create a future where our communities, reef and wildlife thrive, not prop up dirty coal.
Add your name to this open letter to send the Premier a clear message — no dirty royalty deal for Adani:

“Dear Premier,

During the last Queensland election you promised there would be no public money for Adani’s climate-wrecking coal mine.

If Adani’s mine goes ahead it would unleash billions of tonnes of pollution, at a time when we must rapidly phase out coal and take urgent action on the climate crisis.

We ask you to keep your election promise and not cut a special royalty deal with Adani.”

It is your responsibility to act in the long term interests of us, the people you represent. Mining coal can never be in our interests, and any money you receive (on our behalf) will soon be overshadowed by the rising costs of climate warming. This cost will undoubtedly be monetary, but beyond that will cause irreparable hard to ecosystems and countless lives, human and otherwise. There simply cannot be an economic argument for this. Please do not deal with Adani or any other fossil fuel exploiter.

Allowing Adani to go ahead is a short term money grab, with far reaching long term catastrophic consequences. It won’t help with jobs, but it will destroy an already struggling eco system. DON’T BE SHORT SIGHTED AND GREEDY!

Really in a time when the planet is cooking and all inhabitants are being seriously impacted by coal and you are supporting what will potentially become a stranded asset ? The Adani mine is wrong. Have you actually considered the implications here’s ??

The world is dying and you can’t possibly believe that mining more coal and using precious water to facilitate this is wise judgement.
Please use your wisdom to end this foolish obsession with coal. Stand up and be counted as a climate rescuer not a climate destroyer.

Please listen to the majority of Australians who oppose Adani’s climate destroying coal mine.

I have faith that the leader we have chosen here in Queensland is for the people and for the planet we inhabit, do not let Adani happen!!
In 2019 moving to a new decade it’s ridiculous that we are still using caveman energy sources!
We have the capability of working for ourselves whilst also working for the environment!
Don’t ruin Queensland!!!!

Your position is one of responsibility to leave the planet better than you inherited. You know that Adani will not be doing this. Queensland is on the precipice with this Adani decision. Apart from losing votes if Adani goes ahead, you will also lose credibility as a leader who thinks and makes the right choices for now and for the future.

Dear Premier,
I hope you have better sense than to keep pushing on in the destruction of our natural resources. You have a great responsibility in keeping Australia clean, healthy and thriving with the abundance of natural resources (without selling it all off!). Stop the dirty deeds and deals that our nation hasn’t agreed to!
