As bushfires rage across the country, the Queensland government is considering a secret deal with Adani that could mean the coal corporation pockets hundreds of millions of dollars of public money for its climate-wrecking mine.

Analysis by The Australia Institute shows Adani’s special coal royalty deal could be worth between $250 and $700 million dollars. The Palaszczuk Government has refused to reveal the terms of this shady arrangement, claiming it’s too confidential for us to know about.

Our elected representatives have a responsibility to create a future where our communities, reef and wildlife thrive, not prop up dirty coal.
Add your name to this open letter to send the Premier a clear message — no dirty royalty deal for Adani:

“Dear Premier,

During the last Queensland election you promised there would be no public money for Adani’s climate-wrecking coal mine.

If Adani’s mine goes ahead it would unleash billions of tonnes of pollution, at a time when we must rapidly phase out coal and take urgent action on the climate crisis.

We ask you to keep your election promise and not cut a special royalty deal with Adani.”

This project causes unprecedented damage beyond repair, to the world heritage Great Barrier Reef, the ground water in a large area already affected by climate crisis and drought.

Just because you don’t know all the people who will be affected by your damage, and the damage is not limited to a particular date and location, you are still responsible for the damage you are causing.
You can not escape your ethical responsibility for the country and the people who elected you into office.
It depends on your decision, whether your name will be either associated with prevention of harm and protecting our common shared wealth of our natural livelihood, or if your name will stand for helping backward reckless greed – Adani.
I urge you to have an insight and stop this disastrous project while you still can, because once it’s too late it will be too late!

yours sincerely,

You should be working to protect our beautiful country and natural wonders of the world, not selling them off to the highest bidder. Australia does not want coal mines, we want action on climate change and our tax paying money invested in long term sustainable options. Stop thinking of your interests and start listening to your people, and if you’re to blind for that, then listen to the resounding evidence provided by the scientific community who commit their whole life to this work!

Dear Premier Palaszczuk, I love our country and the wonderful and completely individual biodiversity we have. The environment of Australia can’t be replaced and we desperately need to change the way our country works.
Please do not continue to consider working with Adani, our country can’t be saved once it burns to ash.
