To our elected representatives,

We call on you to work together to get big money out of our political system and put people back in.

This means:

  • Banning large donations to political parties and candidates.
  • Increasing the transparency of political donations, including real time reporting of donations. 
  • Limiting expenditure at election times so corporations can’t use their oversized  wallets to drown out our voices.
  • Creating an independent watchdog to investigate and stamp out corruption.
  • Stronger lobbying regulation and greater transparency so we know who’s meeting with our elected representatives and why.

Large donations from corporate players have totally corrupted our political system to such an extent that we now all live in what can only be called a sham democracy. By this I mean a democracy for the corporations and richest 1% only. It is way overdue for substantial donations to be eliminated from politics as they have been, supposedly, from foreign donors.

It’s time our elected representatives are held to the same standards as we are – they are stealing our money for there own advantage and then trying to tell us there’s nothing wrong with that, just because they are politicians.

Get ‘Big Money’ out of politics. No big companies should be able to influence politicians. This would not bet a fair democracy, it would be corruption. To make it a fair system for all: 1) Ban large donations to political parties and candidates.

I think we need to do more than just clean out the corruption and influence of big business. We need to disabuse our elected representatives that they have any right to hold power and to act against the known wishes of the people, that they exist to do anything other than being OUR voices and involving US more directly in decision making, and it needs to be possible to remove them from office between elections and to make them fully accountable on every issue all the time. Our political establishment is already very far from being genuinely democratic, it is an oligarchy, and it is becoming less democratic by the day. The only thing democratic about it are regular elections, but that is not a definition of democracy. It won’t reform itself, so power must be returned to the people.

These people that are supposed to govern the country for the good of all and the health of the environment simply can’t be trusted, so lets remove temptation where ever we can and ban political donations completely. As a minimum we should mandate that all donations are transparent and made public immediately
