Dear Graham,

As constituents of Moreton, we ask you to table a Private Member’s Motion in the House of Representatives drawing attention to growing opposition within the community to the proposed Adani coal mine in the Galilee Basin of Central Queensland.

We believe the Carmichael mine should not go ahead because of the environmental damage it will cause to the Great Barrier Reef and our climate, and because of serious doubts about its economic feasibility.

We also strongly believe that funds from the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility should not by loaned to Adani Group to finance the construction of a rail link from the Galilee Basin to the Abbot Point coal port.

Because of the growing threat posed by climate change, Australia should be moving rapidly towards renewable energy. We support a just transition for existing coal communities, but the world is moving on and it’s clear there should no new coal mines or coal-fired power stations.

Mr Perrett met with me in his Sunnybank office recently where I voiced my concerns about Adani and his proposed mine . Thank you Mr Perrett for your support.

I met you at Russ Hall Park a few weeks ago. The Adani coal project is not good for the Reef nor the rest of the world! Please speak out against it.
Thank you.

This mine will be a disaster – both environmentally and economically. We need representatives like you to speak out in parliament against Adani madness. I can’t understand how it’s come to this!

Hello Graham. Thanks for helping look after our World – it is very important for all of us, Allan.

This mine will be a enviromental and economic disaster. All the job creation are a lure and wil not be sustained in the future as many top profile economists have demonstrated. Instead of lending money to Adani, let’s invest it into the development of renewable energy! This is the future!

I firmly believe that we as a community must make a stand in defending our natural environment from exploitation and ecological destruction. It is our obligation to preserve and protect habitat for our native wildlife from Adani and similar projects that clearly and unequivocally pose a major and irreversible risk to a sustainable and flourishing future. The value to our community in preserving our natural heritage is much greater than any short-term and short-sighted economic benefit to a small minority of vested interests. I applaud elected representatives such as yourself who share this concern and commitment for the future of our natural environment for the benefit of our native wildlife, our children and the broader community well into the future. As stewards of the land and environment, we the public and our elected representatives need to work together and to be bold in drawing a line in the sand against a continuation of ‘business as usual’, where the insatiable needs of industry trump long-term community and ecological considerations. Calling ourselves a ‘smart state’ brings with it an obligation to demonstrate it consistently, committing to doing this even when some vested interests are doing all they can to undermine this and to weaken our resolve.

I have written to all state and federal ministers within the last month or so opposing the Adani mine; and supporting research and development and jobs in renewable energy; and decreasing rebates to fossil fuel extractive industries;and doing Australia’s part to attempt to save our children and country and civilisation and world from the scientifically predicted disaster of climate change – even if we (especially the relatively well-off) have to make some sacrifices and pay a little more – as most would be willing to do to save our country in a war but the consequences of climate change are far worse than even a war. This is a critical issue for Australia and the environment. As a long-term Labor voter, I would not be able to continue my allegiance if Labor (State and Federal) continues to offer any support for the proposed Adani coal mine.

Please please do all you can to stop the Adani mine. I moved to Australia to give my kids a better life. Coal mining is NOT a better life. Thanks Ian
