Sometimes called ‘an island in suburbia’, Toohey Forest is only 10 km south of Brisbane CBD and is one of the few remaining ‘green lungs’ of Brisbane. It provides a vital habitat for many native plants and animals once common across South East Queensland.
In particular, Toohey Forest is home to more than 75 species of birds, including the rarely seen Powerful Owl (Ninox strenua). The Forest attracts many visitors who come to especially to photograph the birds.
In September, the spring wildflowers will be in bloom and we are bound to see many different varieties such as Pultenaea, Gompholobium, Daviesia and Boronia. There are always Eucalypts, grasses and shrubs in abundance, and the Casuarina trees will also be flowering at this time of the year.
Don't forget your hats, sunscreen, insect repellant and water
Bring along a thermos of tea or coffee and a picnic chair & stay around for a cuppa after the walk.
Please note: Nearest bathroom conveniences are at Toohey Forest Carpark, Toohey Road, Nathan.
