The interim report of the independent review of our national environment laws has just been released.

It calls for an independent environmental regulator to oversee compliance and enforcement, and "new, legally enforceable National Environmental Standards" that protect nature.

But the Government has already rejected calls for an independent regulator, and signalled plans to rapidly devolve environmental approval powers to states before the final report lands in October. We have our work cut out for us.

Join us to find out what the report means, and how we can use the coming weeks and months until the review is finalised to secure strong laws that actually protect our forests, rivers, oceans and wildlife.

At this special online Town Hall event, Basha Stasak, Nature Program Manager, and Kathryn McCallum, Community and Mobilisation Manager, will:

  • Share the recommendations and our verdict: We’ll take you through exactly what this report says, its strengths and weaknesses, and make time for your questions
  • Give insight into the Government’s response: We’ll update you on the Government response, why this is concerning, and what we can do next!
  • Outline our campaign plan for the coming months: we’ll share how we will continue building strong alliances, roll out a powerful advertising campaign, raise this campaign in the media, and the local and national actions you can take to speak up for nature at this crucial opportunity.
