An election has been called for Saturday 21 May.

No matter what happens on election day, this is a time to be hopeful and demonstrate our power right around the country.

Since the 2019 federal election, we’ve worked together as a national community and with our allies to achieve incredible things. Here’s just a few!

  • We have saved incredible nature, like Ningaloo Reef from oil and gas giant Woodside Petroleum’s toxic waste dump.
  • We have exposed environmental injustice, like Pardoo Beef Corporation clearing 840 hectares of critical bilby habitat.
  • We keep thwarting Adani. Adani still has not taken any coal out of the Galilee Basin – in part thanks to community pressure and our two community-funded victories in Court blocking their plan to guzzle 12.5 billion litres of water from drought-stricken Central Queensland.
  • We have protected our national environment laws. Several attempts to water down our already weak national environment laws have failed because of our sustained, collective opposition.
  • We have protected our clean energy banks. They don’t have sexy names but the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) and the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) pump millions into clean energy innovations across the country. We have now successfully stopped numerous attempts to redirect their funding to polluting fuels like gas.
  • We have brought business on board with climate action now. The Business Council of Australia is now calling on our government to deliver greater climate action. The big 4 banks still need to set an exit date on financing gas, but they have all now committed to quitting coal by 2030.
  • And across the world we have seen governments raising climate ambition. Countries like the UK, the USA, Korea and Japan, have stepped up with stronger targets and policies to slash pollution this decade. So have our state and territory governments.

The groundswell we have created for greater climate action is huge. We are now at a tipping point where our federal government is trailing far behind – and it’s up to all of us to speak up now to change that.

So in partnership with the Together We Can movement, we want to deliver a big message to our next government after the election.

We’re taking messages from people who have joined Together We Can and delivering them directly to the offices of our MPs, including the Prime Minister, to make it loud and clear they must make climate action their top priority in the new term of government.

It’s time to rise above the politics and do what’s right for nature and people.

Whoever our next government is, they will know that people from every corner of the country want climate action and they want it now

Join the Together We Can movement and have your message included.
