JOIN US FOR THE HEALTHY RIVERS RALLY DUBBO 5/5
The Senate will vote on whether to disallow the sustainable diversion limits (SDL) adjustment on Tuesday 8 May.
The SDL Adjustments consist of 37 efficiency projects that seek to reduce the amount of water needed to keep the rivers, wetlands, lakes and floodplains healthy. Only one of these 37 projects has passed the 12 quality control conditions set out in the Basin Plan and the Water Act 2007.
One of the 36 projects that is poorly described involves ‘restructuring’ the Menindee Lakes so they hold less water, and letting Lake Cawndilla run dry more often.
The MDBA itself has said the NSW Government should have paid more attention to “emerging research… that suggests the area is of Basin-scale significance in supporting self-sustaining populations of golden perch.”
NOT GOOD ENOUGH – THE NSW GOVERNMENT IS PUTTING OUR GOLDEN PERCH POPULATIONS AT RISK SO THAT MORE WATER WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR IRRIGATION.
