Australia’s plants and animals are under threat. Our combined voices can protect them.
We have one of the worst records on extinction in the world. 56 more Australian species have just been added to the international red list of threatened species –bringing the total to 1,830 Australian species in danger!
The nature crisis is global. Habitat destruction is threatening Tasmanian Devils and Sumatran tigers alike with extinction. The Great Barrier Reef is collapsing, so is the Amazon.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek can make Australia a global leader for nature – but they have to show up.
This means attending the 15th conference to the parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15) in Montreal in December, and advocating for strong global nature goals that unite and hold governments and business accountable worldwide to protect and restore the natural world that sustains us.
Sign the petition calling on the federal government to:
Lead on ambitious global goals for nature to halt and reverse biodiversity destruction and achieve a Nature Positive world by 2030 at COP15.
That means championing clear and measurable goals and targets, backed by domestic commitments to:
- End extinction and recover threatened species
- Restore the ecosystems we’ve already degraded
- Embed the value of nature in all government and business decision-making
- Recognise Indigenous rights and stewardship
- Protect at least 30% of the planet’s land and oceans.
Want to understand more about how global goals for nature will help Australia's own endangered plants and animals? Read our blog from Nathaniel Pelle, ACF's Business and Biodiversity Campaign Lead, then sign the petition and invite friends and family to add their names too!

Everything is different from how it was when I was a kid, everything used to flourish in life, and you’d hear about positive stories about endangered animals doing better, and see wild animals all the time, life in Australia was the best place to be as a child, and it all felt so in tune with nature…Nowadays were losing that as more animals become endangered, plants are dying off, chemicals are sprayed everywhere, government not caring, and habitat loss is to the extreme, companies and government circumventing laws all for what? Losing our biodiversity and what makes Australia, Australia. It’s sickening. I have young family members and their friends telling me that they have never even seen iconic Australian wildlife out in the wild, only in the zoos! That should be alarming for everyone to hear, and I don’t understand why we aren’t taking immediate action to fix things!!
This cause is very close to the heart for myself and my family, my dad, who sadly passed in 2016 worked for parks Victoria and was apart of a team to help increase the populations in the Hotham region I. The late 90s early 00s
I want change this because our children deserve to see the amazing animals and environments that our diverse and beauty country has t offer. Our species are so unique and incredible, we must do what is necessary to make meaningful change and implement it before it is too late. Please, we beg for you to make a difference!
Prioritise habitat protection and rejuvenation. Stop the clearing of habitat for suburban sprawl. We live alongside other species; we are not above them.
We need to step up and conserve the animal wildlife.
without ambitious goals, we’re going to lose the most beautiful animals, birds, plants we have the privilege to see. Our children and grandchildren deserve to have a future, and a world that is beautiful and rich in diversity.
I want the world and our country to thrive despite the existence and impact of humanity. We CAN make a change and move back from the danger zone that we have pushed the nine natural factors into.
Governments encourage growth of business to increase tax revenue and employment figures. This of course comes at the expense of taking minerals from earth that cannot be replaced. It also means destroying habitat of native species which results in extinction. Aboriginal people had homeland taken from them and it leads to the extermination of culture by Government.
🌱 plant more native trees +hang more nesting boxes 📦 for black cockatoos
Please do everything you can to protect our unique flora and fauna for their sakes, for our sakes and for our children’s children’s sake.
The greater bibly is one of the many endangered speices that can be found in the Great Sandy Desert. This species is endangered becuase of destruction to their habitats and clearing the land for profit. The other reason why these species are endangered are cats and foxes and all other animals that eat biblies. Australia Conservation Foundation states that there are less than 10,000 bilbys left in the world and that Greater biblys called around 70% of Australia home and now they are one of Australia’s most at-risk animals with only 20% of their habitats remaining.
I love where I live, but I see the differences from when I was a child. I no longer see lizards in our area, we used to see the odd koala in a tree but I haven’t seen one in years here. Our creek is dirty, and the council sprays glyphosate on the edges of playgrounds and the creek even though their website says they don’t. Industry dumps chemicals in the creek upstream regularly. Were killing the beautiful country that we live in and value. Wake up.
time is running out to conserve the rich diversity of living things around the world. Urgent remedial action is essential
Our wildlife is unique and needs to be preserved for its ecological value and benefits to future generations. Without a specified target with government agreement, we are at risk of losing animal species. The time to act is now!
I care about native environments and the lives of all living things, not just human beings
save the yellow tail black cockatoos of Eastern Sydney from Sydney water who have planned to cut 80% of trees in maroubra reservoir , that the birds visit every day !!!! its a no brainer ..
I have 6 Grandchildren who are expecting our birds and wildlife will be protected. You are able to make a huge difference to the outcomes for our amazing species here in Australia. Why are you allowing huge tracts of native forest to be trashed? surely you are not so greedy and short-sighted as to allow this to continue…
How do you want to be remembered?
I want laws for nature to be strengthened in order to protect our precious, unique wildlife which is struggling to survive owing to habitat loss and climate change. We have already lost too much – action must be taken NOW .
Australia’s plants and animals are under threat. We need to end extinctions and reverse the devastating extinction record we have here in Australia. We need ambitious policies and serious regulation to end destructive developments and for governments to take action in the recovery of species and habitats here and worldwide. Seriously reduce carbon, protect all wetlands, oceans, watertables and water basins, forests and all environments from further destructive human activity. Make Australia a global leader instead of making us ashamed of our record .
