Australia’s plants and animals are under threat. Our combined voices can protect them.

We have one of the worst records on extinction in the world. 56 more Australian species have just been added to the international red list of threatened species –bringing the total to 1,830 Australian species in danger!

The nature crisis is global. Habitat destruction is threatening Tasmanian Devils and Sumatran tigers alike with extinction. The Great Barrier Reef is collapsing, so is the Amazon.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek can make Australia a global leader for nature – but they have to show up.

This means attending the 15th conference to the parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15) in Montreal in December, and advocating for strong global nature goals that unite and hold governments and business accountable worldwide to protect and restore the natural world that sustains us.

Sign the petition calling on the federal government to:

Lead on ambitious global goals for nature to halt and reverse biodiversity destruction and achieve a Nature Positive world by 2030 at COP15.

That means championing clear and measurable goals and targets, backed by domestic commitments to:

  • End extinction and recover threatened species
  • Restore the ecosystems we’ve already degraded
  • Embed the value of nature in all government and business decision-making
  • Recognise Indigenous rights and stewardship
  • Protect at least 30% of the planet’s land and oceans.

Want to understand more about how global goals for nature will help Australia's own endangered plants and animals? Read our blog from Nathaniel Pelle, ACF's Business and Biodiversity Campaign Lead, then sign the petition and invite friends and family to add their names too!

I want to save our precious native wildlife as I know time is running out for the ones that aren’t already gone. We have to stop cutting down our forests and plant new ones NOW

Without tacking the serious problems we have in nature, there will be no significant achievements in tackling Climate Change. Interlinked in cause and effect.

Nature is the “thermometer”,
Climate Change is the “disease” causing the fever (higher temperatures).
If we fix one it will affect the other, and voceversa. But when you work on both, then you achieve real healing – and a planet for your children and grandchildren.
We MUST NOT rob them of a future in a Healthy, beautiful planet. Some of us, old neighbours had the privilege of knowing pristine ecosystems. Extremely rare nowadays, and a very sad human-created disaster for many on earth.

I’d like to see the declining populations of the iconic Bogong Moths reverse. This will also help Pygmy Possums survive too

State Governments are not doing enough to protect our wildlife. More Nature corridors and wildlife fence our roads especially in Tasmania

The accelerating extinction rate for species world-wide needs to be stopped unless we plan to be the generation known for creating a planet made almost devoid of wild spaces by our own selfishness and lack of foresight.

We need to provide a voice for those without a voice. All in the name of insatiable “growth” and greed we pillage the planet leaving nothing for other creatures that deserve life, deserve a home and deserve safety. As humans we learn only after the mistake is made and it is too late. Hopefully we learn before it is too late this time.

I want to stop deforestation of old growth forest and start using sustainable plantations for timber. Development can occur on already cleared land and replanting is a necessity. Greater gliders will die out and it will be your fault for killing Australia’s cutest animal. :(
