Australia’s plants and animals are under threat. Our combined voices can protect them.
We have one of the worst records on extinction in the world. 56 more Australian species have just been added to the international red list of threatened species –bringing the total to 1,830 Australian species in danger!
The nature crisis is global. Habitat destruction is threatening Tasmanian Devils and Sumatran tigers alike with extinction. The Great Barrier Reef is collapsing, so is the Amazon.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek can make Australia a global leader for nature – but they have to show up.
This means attending the 15th conference to the parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15) in Montreal in December, and advocating for strong global nature goals that unite and hold governments and business accountable worldwide to protect and restore the natural world that sustains us.
Sign the petition calling on the federal government to:
Lead on ambitious global goals for nature to halt and reverse biodiversity destruction and achieve a Nature Positive world by 2030 at COP15.
That means championing clear and measurable goals and targets, backed by domestic commitments to:
- End extinction and recover threatened species
- Restore the ecosystems we’ve already degraded
- Embed the value of nature in all government and business decision-making
- Recognise Indigenous rights and stewardship
- Protect at least 30% of the planet’s land and oceans.

We need to protect nature for our children and their children
I want ambitious goals for nature because we need to protect biodiversity, it is key for our survival. I do not want to be responsible for making more animals go extinct and ruining more precious ecosystems. Humans need to live in balance with nature, not just take and destroy everything.
I want ambitious goals for nature because nature is us, and we are nature and our health (and being) are closely intertwined. If I can’t care for human-others, how do I care for humans?
Protecting nature is the most effective way of surviving the climate crisis. We need to start NOW!
It is important for Australia to sign the global goals for nature as our country has allowed extinction and degradation of our natural environment. If we are part of a global goal we will have the eyes of other nations and that may our government to take vital action!
We need to openly start addressing the underlying issue of human overpopulation causing our 96% footprint. Unless that’s addressed everything else is a futile band aid. W3 have passed the tipping point of overpopulation impact. Conversations about this need to happen more openly to destygmatise the subject begure we can address the impact the wr’re having.
So much destruction in my life time
This cannot continue, we must preserve our natural habitat and prevent extinction of every animal and plant. They all have a very important role to play.
Australia is extremely lucky to have an amazing number of unique fauna & flora. It is our responsibility to protect the habitats which are home to these treasures, for our future generations.

I want ambitious targets set at COP15 and end the trend toward mass extinction. Our governments must be held accountable and protect what is left, at home in Australia & globally
We need to make a stand and set ambitious goals to protect nature. If for no other reason than our lives literally depend on it! But also to protect the beautiful environment that is Australia – our unique wildlife (flora and fauna) can’t be replaced later, we need to save and regenerate it NOW.
Australia has been a world leader for nature and science in the past – let’s get ourselves back up there now. Let’s get past the embarrassment previous government cost us.
Let’s show how important this is – to all Australians and the rest of the world by having our Prime Minister and Environment Minister attend CP15.
I want both ambitious Global goals and strong national laws in Australia that protect nature, and it’s ecosystems. I’m worried that humanity is taking all the planet’s resources and quality habitats away from fauna, including shorebirds and marine animals. Without nature’s values, there is nothing to see, hear or enjoy. For example, birds are nature’s musicians. No birds, no music! We are custodians of this planet, with an obligation to future generations. As Australians, we have an obligation to meet our international agreements. The proposed development of the Ramsar wetland, Toondah Harbour and local wetlands must be stopped, NOW!

Australian cannot afford to lose another endangered species which has a vital role within the nation’s environment.
Urgent remedial action is necessary if the species is to regenerate.
There is so much to do to restore our environment and biodiversity and offer support to other countries who need it – please go for strong targets and take big positive steps during and after COP15
we need to work hard to repair the damage we as humans have done to mother earth and her charges
If we carry on destroying nature and consuming resources at the current rate we will wipe ourselves out. We live in a natural system and every action we take has consequences.
I want ambitious goals for nature because I don’t want the world I live in to slowly die and crumble around me, while knowing that when I was unable to, people still didn’t care about the state of the earth for future generations. It is about stewardship, and also recognising the stewardship of the traditional owners of this land. They kept their country alive and thriving for over 60,000 years, while we destroy it in 234 years.
We need to protect our wildlife, for future generations.
I want an ambitious global goal for nature to keep the earth as a better place for humans. We should be able to live as one with animals. If we wipe our our flora and fauna this will be detrimental to the human race in the long run. The planet can not survive if we destroy the animals and plants that keep the environment balanced. Why should animals suffer for our wrong doings to this planet? They are all beautiful and make this planet a better place.
