Woodside is among Australia’s largest polluting gas companies. Its plans to build the Scarborough Gas Project and Pluto extension would generate emissions over its lifetime equal to ten years of running all of the country’s coal-fired power stations combined!
No matter where it is burnt, the gas Woodside digs up is fuelling climate damage and destroying Australia’s precious places like the Great Barrier and Ningaloo Reefs, compromising the wishes of Traditional Owners and putting people’s health at risk.
How do they get away with it? Woodside, and other big polluters, are sponsoring and exploiting our favourite sports to buy a positive reputation.
When Woodside plasters its logo across the purple hearts of Fremantle Dockers players, it’s paying for the connection and loyalty we feel for sports, and marketing themselves as a community-oriented brand – all so that Woodside can keep polluting.
We need to stop Woodside from using sports sponsorships to wash away their dirty image. That’s why, we're calling on people, no matter what footy jumper you wear or if you don’t support any team, to sign this petition:
Our teams are not for sale. We urge the Board of Fremantle FC to immediately end its sponsorship deal with Woodside Energy to protect the people, places, and game we love.

As a kid I was signed up as a founding member of the Dockers AFL club, and it has been the club my family affiliates with ever since. ButI don’t want to support a team that aligns itself with a company whose product is destroying my children’s future.
I want the Dockers to be a leader and to say no to fossil fuel money.
No more planet-destroying carbon bombs! That methane gas is already where it should be – stored underground in priceless geological vaults. Leave it in the ground. Change your business model or we will change it for you.
Yes give woodside the Boot
fossil fuel advertising normalises and gives social liscence to actions that degrade our natural environment and are accelerating climate change, this brings us closer to tipping points and exacerbates climate disruptions on sport, including the AFL. Moving away from fossil fuel sponsorship sends a strong message that we can all make hard decisions in business and day to day life to minimise our negative and maximise our positive impacts on the environment. All sports wishing to remove fossil fuel sponsorship and other harmful industry sponsorship can get great support from experts in sustainability and corporate responsibility. And using tools like the Climate Councils pledge and toolkit to remove fossil fuel (coal, oil and gas) industry sponsorship from sport and the arts. If the Victorian Govt can legislate no gas into new homes, aport can find new sponsors. our industry leadership matters to retain social licence and protect vulnerable Australians and sports future for the generations of millions of people who are yet to play the games we love and experience the passion, the health, the connection that playing sport brings.
