Woodside is among Australia’s largest polluting gas companies. Its plans to build the Scarborough Gas Project and Pluto extension would generate emissions over its lifetime equal to ten years of running all of the country’s coal-fired power stations combined!
No matter where it is burnt, the gas Woodside digs up is fuelling climate damage and destroying Australia’s precious places like the Great Barrier and Ningaloo Reefs, compromising the wishes of Traditional Owners and putting people’s health at risk.
How do they get away with it? Woodside, and other big polluters, are sponsoring and exploiting our favourite sports to buy a positive reputation.
When Woodside plasters its logo across the purple hearts of Fremantle Dockers players, it’s paying for the connection and loyalty we feel for sports, and marketing themselves as a community-oriented brand – all so that Woodside can keep polluting.
We need to stop Woodside from using sports sponsorships to wash away their dirty image. That’s why, we're calling on people, no matter what footy jumper you wear or if you don’t support any team, to sign this petition:
Our teams are not for sale. We urge the Board of Fremantle FC to immediately end its sponsorship deal with Woodside Energy to protect the people, places, and game we love.

Woodside are big polluters. Ten years ago it might have been acceptable to be sponsored by them but not in this day and age.
Dear Dockers
Kick fossil fuel sponsorship out of sport. Take away the social licence of companies that continue to profit from the destruction of our climate and planet.
While you’re at it, refuse sponsorship by gambling companies as well. They have become a parasitic blight on Australian sport and Australian families, and I am sick to death of their advertising plastered across everything.
I love AFL and would like to see the sport stand up for socially responsible values.

Young people with environmental education will cease to support Fremantle FC if the club accepts sponsorship from the large polluter.

Please remove Woodside from your jerseys. Your players have always had code of correct game rules, they now have a code of conduct as community standards have risen over time. Now the wider community seeks your assistance to take a stand against what could be described as the corporate raping of our health (cigarettes and alcohol) or our precious environment for massive profit.
Remove and refuse sponsorship where the activities of the business has a detrimental impact on health and the globe. In the case of the latter, we only have one of them.
Please consider options other than Woodside for financial support. In the past teams have dropped smoking and alcohol advertising, now the problem is pollution and no longer an individuals problem, it affects everyone worldwide.
Don’t advertise Woodside when it destroys our climate, our wildlife and the special places like Ningaloo Reef that can never be replaced. Woodside trash our environment constantly by leaving their garbage in our oceans after they are decommissioned and take years to clean up their mess. Their goal is just about making money and the poor losers are us, and nature.
Australia has the economic sophistication on par with the congo, spend that money on innovations and intellectual property, or an automated renewable powered manufacturing industry and reap the rewards of free energy and diversifying Australia’s economic portfolio.
any of these suggestions would be a win-win for Australia and Woodside, and all would be great points for a marketing campaign.
Not only is coal and gas crap for the environment, but it’s also crap for Australia’s economic performance. If your going to spend the money anyways, why not do better? Why not be bold?
